Everything happens for a reason

Ain’t that the truth

I fear that you’ll get over me

quicker than the time it took to button up your shirt

and lead me toward the door


I miss the things that aggravated me

like picking up your dirty socks off the floor

I fear that five years will pass with no contact at all

I never wanted that

I didn’t want to lose you

I just wanted to find myself


But I can’t dwell on what I can’t change

Everything happens for a reason

I’ll see you in the future

when we’re wiser and older

No matter how much you try to rationalize it

love doesn’t just leave like that

And with just one glance

at the girl who broke your heart

a flame will spark inside of you

that you won’t ever be able to put out


The best advice I’ve received –

“You don’t miss him, you just miss the memories”

But you’re gone

just like that ring you gave me
