As the Detroit Tigers head into the final stretch of the season, they have yet to give us a good idea of who exactly they are. One moment they are scoring runs in multitudes and pitching lights out in all aspects. The next, they are struggling to score runs and giving runs in multitudes. With that in mind, here’s three major things to watch for as we move into the final games of the 2016 season.
Michael Fulmer’s workload

No matter what the outcome of the season is, Michael Fulmer will be the brightest spot for the Tigers this season. He has lead the league in ERA (2.69) and owns one of the longest scoreless streaks for a rookie in Major League history. However, the Tigers have been mindful of the young arm’s workload as they hope to preserve him for as long as they can. The Tigers’ hopes for the 2016 season could rest on how much they are willing to depend on Fulmer

The Bullpen
While it was a strength during the first half of the season, the Tigers bullpen is slowly showing signs of cracking at the worst time of the years. Relievers Francisco Rodriguez and Justin Wilson have been reliable all year but are starting to fade away in recent appearances. If the Tigers are going to get to the 2016 postseason, these two relief pitchers must bring their games back to the first half levels to stabilize the back-end of the Tigers bullpen.
At the end of the day, there could be multiple factors that could play into the Tigers’ postseason chances. However, the previous stated factors could greatly affect how the outcome of the Tigers’ 2016 season. If all goes well, these three things will be fulfilled.
