I Can Make It ...

Through The Rain

Depression: something that nearly everyone has experienced at some point in their life. Whether it be a subtle case, a mild case or a severe, lasting case, the effects of depression are clear. Your life may start to feel dark, drear, and without meaning. For others, you may even begin to have suicidal tendencies and just want it all to end. I, just like many, many others around the world, have experienced feelings and sensations just like these. When you start to experience depression, it's always hard to pull yourself out of its evil spell.

I, personally, have suffered from depression at various points in my life. While I no longer suffer from it, I know exactly what it feels like. I even have friends that are currently suffering with depression and I know, from either their telling me or my witnessing it first hand, just how hard it is for them. I have one friend in particular that came to me and expressed that they were dealing with depression and I did everything I could to comfort them. A day later, a thought crossed my mind: I should recommend to that person a certain song that I always listen to when I am or I am feeling depressed. That song is "Through The Rain" by Mariah Carey, and it is honestly one of my saving graces that have helped me so much in life.

When I first heard the song, I was, at the time, dealing with depression and it the lyrics helped me so much. I want to share with whoever is reading this, whether you have depression now, have suffered through it, or even, heaven forbid, will suffer with it, to read these lyrics or listen to the song. You don't have to, obviously, but it helped me, my friend, and probably many others.

Here are the lyrics:

"When you get caught in the rain with no where to run
When you're distraught and in pain without anyone
When you keep crying out to be saved
But nobody comes and you feel so far away
That you just can't find your way home
You can get there alone
It's okay, what you say is
I can make it through the rain
I can stand up once again on my own
And I know that I'm strong enough to mend
And every time I feel afraid I hold tighter to my faith
And I live one more day and I make it through the rain
And if you keep falling down don't you dare give in
You will arise safe and sound, so keep pressing on steadfastly
And you'll find what you need to prevail
What you say is

I can make it through the rain
I can stand up once again on my own
And I know that I'm strong enough to mend
And every time I feel afraid I hold tighter to my faith
And I live one more day and I make it through the rain

And when the rain blows, as shadows grow close don't be afraid
There's nothing you can't face
And should they tell you you'll never pull through
Don't hesitate, stand tall and say

I can make it through the rain
I can stand up once again on my own
And I know that I'm strong enough to mend
And every time I feel afraid I hold tighter to my faith
And I live one more day and I make it through the rain

I can make it through the rain
And I live once again
And I live one more day
And I can make it through the rain
(Yes you can)
You will make it through the rain"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
