Thoughts You Have While Driving

Long road trips let your mind wander.

Thoughts You Have While Driving
Morgane Flynn

The worst part about going away to school is the drive home. Being from Scranton, Pennsylvania and going away to school in Rhode Island means that there is roughly a five-hour drive to and from school. Now what do you do on these drives if you’re driving by yourself. Everybody has different thoughts while driving. And while driving on a long road trip everybody goes through different stages of what they think about.

Once you get into the car you have to make sure everything is ready before you start your drive, like making sure your playlist is all set so you don’t have try to find a working radio channel in each area, you better have that aux cord ready. Your road trip tunes are very important because they are going to set the mood of the whole trip.

While driving and listening to your music you might have thoughts like “Wow I’m a great singer I should definitely audition for 'American Idol.'” Or “So that’s what this song is really about…Hmmm.” The best part of driving alone is that you can sing as loud as you want and nobody is there to tell you to shut up or that you are probably the worst singer ever and that you can listen to any type or music you want and not get judge and also there is no one to ask you to change the music because they don’t like what your listening. Driving alone does have its perks.

There are many thoughts that run through your mind while driving. Like what the heck am I going to be doing in five-years? Am I going to have a job? Is college really worth the stress and the money? Probably. My family really is crazy. How am I so normal? Maybe I’m not as normal as I liked to think I am? Hopefully I am. Did I really say that to him? God, I’m so embarrassing! Next semester I am going do better. Oh wait I said that last semester… They Spice Girls were so great I can listen to "Wannabe" every day. OK, maybe not every day. Holy crap I’m an adult! When did that happen? Nope I’m not an adult, I refuse to be an adult. I’m not ready for bills, and living one my own and having to cook for myself. I’m a terrible cook! I set the smoke alarm off that one time I tried to make a grilled cheese. The smoke alarm! I should not be an adult and do adult things. Maybe I can marry someone who can cook? Who are you kidding you’ll probably end up alone burning grilled cheese every day for the next 50-years. God, I wish I could take a nap right now. I should probably stop for another coffee. Sweet I only have two-hours left who knew I could be excited about being stuck in a car for only two more hours. I should definitely audition for "American Idol." Hmm better not I have a terrible voice. Oh no the playlist just restarted I going to be stuck listening to the same songs for the next two-hours.

Why did I go away to school again? Especially to a place five-hours away.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
