Learning a new language is difficult, specially when you have no idea what you're doing. You try desperately to memorize the 150 new words you get every week but it seems nearly impossible. Your professor doesn't seem to understand why it's so difficult for you to learn an entire new language in one semester. Coming up on test day and you feel pretty confident until you get there and have absolutely no idea what the paper says. These thoughts you have during this class are never in Spanish but they are very valid.
Why don't we just get translators put in our bodies?
I really don't think it would be all that difficult to just rewire a couple things in our brains and then we could talk to everyone.
How do you expect us to memorize ALL of these words?
I have at least 200 new words from the chapter I started last night and you're giving the class a vocabulary quiz over it today? Really? That's just mean.
When no one in the class knows what the professor is saying.
No matter how slow my professor talks or how many times she repeat herself, I still have no idea what she's saying.
How do you know all of this?
Envy is a very real thing in class because there's always three other kids who know everything and it's mind blowing.
Why are there different words for the same word?
Saber and conocer both mean "to know" but I don't know anything about this class.
Why don't we get to eat tacos while we're in class?
I would definitely pay attention more if each lesson was taught with correlating food. You can't expect me to want to sit here five days a week without some incentive.
I really don't know what you're saying.
I just feel hopeless lost and really wish it wasn't past the drop date but maybe it'll be okay.
At least I know more than that person.
At least I know the most basic things, you couldn't even ask someone what their name was.
When you're trying to avoid being called on.
Please don't. Please don't. My Spanish accent makes me sound congested.
When it's time for your oral presentation and you just mumble through the whole thing and hope for the best.
Hopefully if she can't tell what I'm saying she'll just think I said actual words.
When you finally understand what's going on.
Getting your test back and seeing that you got an 80 instead of a 61 like on the first one makes you feel like king of the world.
