Thoughts On Going Back To School For Second Semester

Winter break was great. In fact, I wish it could be a little bit longer. It was amazing being able to spend some time away from school and work and being able to spend quality time with family and friends. Lucky for me, I was able to spend two weeks on vacation in Florida with my twin sister, visiting my grandparents. But I am so ready to be back with my friends at school and my sorority sisters! It was so weird spending so much time apart from them!

Going into the first week of first semester, everyone seems to be excited yet anxious to start all over again. New classes, new professors and a new schedule to get used to. Am I going to like my classes? My professors? It seems as if everyone had just gotten adjusted to their new life away at school.

Everyone has such high hopes for second semester. If you ask me, first semester was great but it could’ve been a lot better. It was a big adjustment from living at home to living at school, making new friends, learning the campus and rushing a sorority. But now everyone has gotten the hang of it…well I hope so!

When school starts again I will definitely miss things at home that I have become accustomed to over break. My own room, bathroom, not having to wear shower shoes, my mom’s home cooking and having my car. There are definitely some perks of being home for such a long period of time. It will be hard to adjust to life without them when getting back to school. But spring break will come soon enough!

Going into second semester, I can take a lot that I learned last semester into it. First off, I know that I do not need to leave a half hour early for class because I know that I will be sitting outside waiting. I know how to plan out my day and I learned that office hours really do help. I was so scared to go to office hours to talk to my professors, but they really to respect you for coming and are more willing to help you if you come to them. Last semester was a lot of trial and error, but it definitely helped me prepare for my second semester. I also learned that I needed to get more involved, which I have already done before the semester starts by taking on leadership roles. Getting involved is the best thing to do at college. It gives you something to do; you will make tons of friends and you will always be busy!

The next few days that I have at home I will cherish and prepare for my next semester. I am extremely excited but so nervous at the same time! I hope second semester is everything I am hoping for and that I love my classes and professors!

Good luck next semester!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
