You told me this was my campaign, Hillary, and listed things about climate change and equal pay. I want equal pay. I believe in climate change. I want free college opportunities. I want liberation from student debt. Training and work opportunities for people beside college graduates is great. Dreamers should be able to build. Paid family leave and affordable childcare are awesome too. Maybe I can get behind this historical woman-for-president business.
You even addressed how you would break through Washington’s “gridlock,” siting past bipartisan experience. You shot hard at Donald Trump just six minutes into your speech, just as he has shot at you many times. You looked groundbreaking in white, told stories that made you look softer, cracked some jokes, and referenced the greatness that is Hamilton. To my surprise, you spoke of supporting Israel and being NATO’s ally and taking care of ISIS. Guns? You handled that too, claiming you wouldn’t destroy the Second Amendment, but you would keep guns away from those who intend harm.
Even though I consider myself a Republican, I liked a lot of what you said. Your hour long speech was honest, but covered many major topics which you are passionate about. I respect that and I want to tell you that even though I’m a Republican, I enjoyed most of it.
Unfortunately for you, I’ve become a one-issue voter since this political season is such a mess. And that one issue is life, a word you did not use.
In your speech that brought chants of your name and boos for your opponent and incorporated a great quote from FDR, you did not stand up for the unborn. You stood for those whose lives were taken because they were “outgunned by criminals” but you didn’t stand up for those who will have no chance to live at all. You said you would stand up for those who have disabilities, but many abortions occur because someone doesn’t want a disabled child. You said you would stand up for human rights, but there are baby humans dying every day with no voice. Where are their rights Hillary? What are you doing to help them? You want to improve the lives of people across this country- then let babies live! The history that has made this country “fairer” has taken fairness out of the equation for a baby viewed as an ‘accident’ or a ‘burden.’ You claim you want to build a better tomorrow for our children- then let them be born!
And so despite the many ways in which I do agree with you Hillary, I am not afraid to say that unborn children are alive. I am not afraid to take a political stance in their favor, which means that unfortunately I will not be taking a stand for you.
I’m glad that someday I will be able to tell my daughter that a woman ran for president. My only regret will be that I will not be able to tell her that I voted for you. And if she asks why, I will hug her tight and tell her that I loved her and thousands just like her more than I loved any piece of history.
My apologies, Mrs. Clinton.
(I’m not sorry at all).
