I am a firm believer that happiness is a choice. Sure, sometimes life throws some pretty intense curveballs that can cause us to be unhappy. But most of the time simply by thinking positively, we can achieve happiness. The way I see it, we have three options. We can dwell on the negatives, we can stay busy, or we can twists the negatives into positives.
Have you ever met someone who excepts the worst out of every situation? And then when exactly what they were worried about happens, they blame the universe and say that life is not fair. When you constantly think that negative events are going to happen, they will. You cannot be excited about the good things because you only think about the bad. It is the "I have ____, but I wish I had ______" mindset, and it is toxic.
Don't get me wrong, it is OK to be upset for a little while. But dedicating too much thought to issues that you cannot change is not good for your mental health. Instead of dwelling on the negative, do activities that make you happy. Read a new book, go for a drive, listen to your favorite song, write about it, or work out. Do whatever it is that gets your mind thinking about your best interests. Dwelling on the bad is a waste of time. There is so much good out there, dwell on that instead.
I once heard this quote: "What looks like rejection is actually God's protection." Whether you are religious or not, most people agree that everything happens for a reason. I like to view each rejection or issue as a new opportunity. I have a brand new opportunity to try something new or meet new people. Instead of looking at what you cannot do, look at what you can do. Twisting the bad situations into good gives you endless possibilities.
Thinking positively can change the way you view life. It is not easy, sometimes it seems impossible, but there is a silver lining on every cloud. Once you find your silver lining, life will change for you. Make the choice to be happy and think positively.
