I think I always knew that I was an “old soul”. However, college life has made me realize just how much of an old soul I really am. The way I view my peers, how I cope with dorm life and what I choose to do on many of my Friday nights has opened my eyes to how much older I am on the inside than I am on the outside. Here are some things that I am sure my fellow old souls and I have in common:
1. You value privacy
Having your own space is important to you.
2. You don’t vibe with a lot of the people your age
Sometimes, when you compare yourself to your peers, you just feel so much older. Your idea of a fun Friday night doesn’t match up with theirs, but it does match up with someone much much older than you.
3. Group friendships always feel surface-deep
There is nothing better than having a few close friends who you can really talk to--about anything. And there is nothing worse than having superficial interactions with a big group of acquaintances. Old souls don’t really have “party friends”.
4. You aren’t concerned with what everyone else is doing
You couldn’t care less about snap stories. Who cares what everyone else is doing every second of the day?
5. You love deep conversations
They are the best.
6. Small talk is the the worst
This goes back to the superficial interaction. Sometimes it can take some serious energy to engage in small talk because it just feels so forced.
7. You don’t mind being the “odd one out”
You only do something if you want to do it. Whether or not everyone else does it makes no difference to you.
8. Being alone doesn’t bother you
In fact, you need your alone time to “recharge” and you are most content when you are in your own space.
9. You’re proud of what makes you different
You don’t ever try to fit into the crowd. You understand your differences and you appreciate them because they are what makes you who you are.
10. You are selective with your relationships
You don’t date unless you really see a possibility for something serious in the future. And when that special someone finally comes along you don’t take them for granted.
