College dating and things they don’t tell you:

When we’re in elementary school we have so many boyfriends who are just our whole heart. They write us cute little letters about how cute we are and how much they like us. They bring us Valentines and give us the biggest card in the whole box.

Then middle school hits and you have a new boyfriend every month just cause Jake talked to Becky, or cause Mark didn’t come to your locker in your class break. Finally, we get to the great years of high school, freshman year hits and if you were like me you had an upperclassman boyfriend who was taking you to prom. Then he graduated and you might have had two friends fighting for your attention, or ended up dating a guy who gave you the best “prom-posal.” Finally, it’s time to graduate and you’re either going to keep a long distance relationship, or you end things to find yourself in college.

Well, you might have given long distance a shot, and that didn’t work out too well. Maybe you’re the one who's looking for themselves and what they like, but let's be real no one prepared us for dating in college and there are so many types you meet.

Let’s start with the guy you meet at the food court, you show up get your food sit down and he doesn’t say a word to you. The entire time you try to make conversation and the entire time he brushes you off. Then he sees some of his brothers and runs off with them leaving you to walk home in the middle of a tropical storm. If a boy is ever that much of a jerk and makes you walk back to your dorm in the dark while it’s storming he’s not worth it.

Next, you have the older, but just as equal of a mistake. You’re out having a good time with your friends just to get sick to your stomach with no idea what’s happening. He’s being nice letting you stay in his bed but then the cuddling starts and next thing you know you’re making out with him till you pass out cause why not. He gets your number and you hang out a few more times thinking he seems sweet.

But then you realize he’s actually excessively rude.

Let’s make matters worse: he’s your friend's roommate so you’re constantly seeing this accident. You’re gonna constantly run into people you wish you wouldn’t that’s just life. Just be civil we’re adults now so act like it, things happened so deal with it no reason you can’t be friends.

So all college kids go to parties, it's just natural and you meet a lot of cute boys. Especially the frat boys, and if you get my luck with guys, the president. Yeah it happens and you go to a few of the parties and he’s a bit of a jerk but he’s sweet on you, wrong. You’re at a party having fun he gets a bit too much in his system and now he’s running his mouth like no tomorrow and that comes to an end. If any boy or girl for this matter is under the influence saying some pretty hurtful stuff you might want to sever all ties.

As it’s said liquid courage and it makes people a little too honest about feelings.

Now, something college people love to try is the world of Tinder! So you meet some guys who are automatically a no, but you meet some who give you a shot. You start talking to this one guy who seems absolutely great but guess what, he’s not. You go out but whenever you do it seems like it's all effort on your end, not his. That’s just not fair because why should the girl have to do all the work? So the way you can handle this, ghost him and if he wants things to keep going he knows how to reach you.

So you met that one decent guy on a dating app and you think "let’s give a few other sites a try". You get a few more and you get a perfect match! That cute guy you’ve been admiring for months, and you start talking. Things seem to be going great but then the worst thing happens. He starts leaving you on read, and sending you snaps he’s posting on his story.

Now you don’t wanna seem crazy so you ignore it but let’s be real four days in a row and you haven’t gotten an original? The best way to retaliate leave him on read. Those are some hard words from a girl who just constantly want’s to talk to the boy, but you need to establish that space cause all he’s thinking is she’ll snap me back right away. Don’t.

Take these things into consideration its not so much as being told what to do it’s knowing what you deserve. You don’t deserve walking home in a storm. You shouldn’t have to constantly avoid someone cause of one little mistake. You really don’t deserve being degraded by a guy at a party cause you wont give him what he wants. And you deserve as much effort as you give.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
