Boyfriends are great. We all love our boyfriend. But what about the person who made him into who he is today? This one is for our boyfriends' moms. Here's to you. Here's what your son's girlfriend wants you to know about how thankful she is to have met you and gotten to be part of his life, and yours!
1. You come first
You will always be his leading lady, the first girl he ever loved, and his #1 best friend, and I'm completely OK with that; in fact, that's how I think it should be. You taught him everything he knows, including how to love a girl, and it's only right that you come first in his life after all the hard work you've put in over the years creating him into the wonderful man he is today. I never want us to feel like we're in a competition for his attention, because at the end of the day, if you aren't his first pick then there's a problem; you're his mom. Mom > everything
2. I love your family
Dating your son is great, but getting to meet the entire family was such a bonus. Your family is so fun and loving and I always enjoy spending time with them. I love being a big sister to your daughter and answering all of your mom's questions so she can determine if I'm good enough to be dating her grandson. Your family cares and it's the kind of family dynamic I never get tired of being around, even if they're very different than my own.
3. Your son is my best friend
He and I get to have so many adventures together and I'm so thankful God brought him into my life! He's my best friend and we get to laugh, make memories together, and support each other through life, as crazy as it may be. He's a fantastic person and that's all thanks to you!
4. I'm going to take care of him
Every mom worries about their kid's heart getting broken. I can't promise that he and I will stay together forever because we're too young to know that! However, I can promise you I'm going to take care of him. I'll make sure he puts his napkin in his lap at restaurants, he says "please" and "thank you" when he's supposed to, and most importantly, I'll respect him just as he respects me. I will always be honest with him and never try to hurt him or pick a fight with him because I know him getting hurt would hurt you too.
5. You did a great job
The person I'm dating is all credit to you. You did such a great job raising him to be the phenomenal person he is today. He respects me, has good manners, and loves harder than anyone I know and you instilled those traits in him. I know you worry about how he is in public and how he treats others and I can assure you, you did an excellent job and he is a person I'm so proud to be seen with, thanks to the years of hard work you invested into him.
6. You make me feel important
The little things you do make me feel so important. Whether it is including me in family dinner, buying me a birthday present, or sending me a text checking up on how my midterms went, you always go out of your way to make me feel special and included. I can't thank you enough for all the times you have allowed me to join your family on special events or the texts you've sent me that have turned a bad day around. You're a great mom to your kids and to me too.
7. We love you
Obviously your son loves you and you know that. But his love for you is so great it's almost contagious. You are such a special, God-loving woman that it's impossible not to love you! You make every environment feel homey and you always know how to make the people around you smile, even if it's through a hug.
8. I value your opinion
You're careful not to step on toes or get involved in our relationship because you know we're going to make mistakes but they'll be our mistakes that we'll have to learn from. You know we get into stupid arguments and you let us work them out. I value your opinion because you are so much wiser than us and you have been in such a wonderful relationship/marriage for so many years that we look up to you. We watch your example and listen to the advice you give us and it has had such a positive effect on our relationship.
9. I appreciate all you do for me
You have gone so out of your way to make me feel special, included, and important and I can not thank you enough. You've always offered me rides, prayed for me in tough times, and encouraged me in all I've done and I am so incredibly appreciative.
10. Thank you
There's so many different things I want to thank you for I could never list them all in this article. Thank you for raising the most amazing man, thank you for including me, thank you for setting a wonderful example of a healthy relationship, thank you for teaching your son how to respect a woman, thank you for all the dinners and tickets you've bought for me, and most of all, thank you for being one of the most remarkable, respectable people in my life. I'm so thankful that dating your son has allowed me to meet someone as wonderful as you.
