6 'Home Things' I Will Miss The MOST, As I Go To College

I'm gonna miss my shower.

As I'm counting down the last of my days at home before I move back to school, I find myself having all sorts of mixed feelings. I'm so excited to be reunited with my friends and back at school, but I'm also going to miss my family and home.

There is just really no place like home ...

1. My mom's cooking

I'm so sorry, but my dining hall comes nowhere near the culinary perfection that my mom cooks at home. I'm going to miss gathering around the kitchen table and eating my home-cooked meal. That is why I will now cherish every break and long weekend at home when I can eat home-cooked food three times a day.

2. My bed

Hey, don't get me wrong, my bed at school is comfy and cute, but there's no bed like my own. I will miss my nice queen sized bed with my comfy, silky sheets. I will miss being able to roll in my sleep and not fear for my life that I will roll off and hit the tile (trust me, it will happen). College will make you value your bed at home, trust me.

3. My car

I will miss my beautiful car that I love and cherish so much. I will miss driving around with my windows down and my music blasting. I will miss having my warm car to drive around in during the winter and now I will be walking on foot everywhere I go ... or I mean, I'll have to Uber.

4. My shower

It actually makes my heart hurt. I will miss my beautiful shower, the shower that I can be barefoot in. The shower that has all of my soap organized just for me. I will miss being able to sing to my heart's content in my own shower. Ugh, how I will miss you.

5. My friends

To my high school friends and my friends from home, I will miss you. Even though I'm not far away, I still will miss you all. FaceTime and texts aren't the same as being together. I'll miss our shopping outings and our afternoons poolside.

6. My family

I will miss my parents and siblings a lot. I miss being at home with them at night sometimes. I will miss our conversations at the dinner table and how they are always with me at home. I will miss our family dynamic and our days together. I will especially miss my dog, though. I will miss you sleeping at the foot of my bed and the way that you get excited when I wake up in the morning.

In the end, though, home will always be there. I don't have to miss everything so much because I know that I will be back soon enough. I'm so lucky that I get to go school and gain a great education and be surrounded by so many wonderful people.

Even though I will miss home a lot, I'm so excited to start this year at school.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
