Things to Remember When Starting an Employee Recognition Program

Employee recognition programs are vital to any company that wants to be successful. These kinds of programs help workers to feel like they play an important part of the company as well as raises morale. It is very common for employees to not feel valued for the daily work they do for the company they work for. Employees who are well-recognized are more likely to stay with the company compared to workers who feel like they are not well-recognized. If the owner of a company wants their business to thrive, they must keep their most talented employees. Owners should keep in mind that perfect employees exist and they should be recognized for what they do. Also, owners should do something nice for them to make sure they stay employed for their company. Your employee recognition program can take place once a month, every three or six months, or once a year. It is completely up to you, but the event should show that some time, effort and thoughtfulness was put into the planning. Here are five practical ways to create an employee recognition program, from determining your goals of the program and what to call it to ordering crystal awards for employees who deserve honorable mention.

Dig Deep & Find a Why

The first way to start an employee recognition program is to recognize the why behind it. Think about why you want to incorporate this kind of program in your workplace. The overall goal for implementing this kind of program is to boost overall employee morale. Something else to think about is how will the purpose serve your business. The employee recognition program could work side-by-side with the values of your company. This program can be created to encourage and reinforce these values being lived out by your employees from top to bottom. Also, this program can be made to show appreciation to a group of employees who worked on a lengthy and difficult project. Figuring out the purpose and communication that to your workers is a vital step in starting an employee recognition program.

How Can One Be Voted For?

A second step in starting an employee recognition program can be to determine the eligibility qualifications of an employee or group of employees. The owner and a selection team will have to sit down and iron out some specific requirements for the program. For example, one might consider the type of worker as a prerequisite. Does the worker have to be full time or can he or she be part-time? Do temporary workers and or interns qualify? These are questions that will have to be answered. Also, a different requirement may include length of employment. Does the worker have to be employed for a specific time frame to be eligible? Another question may be, can the same award be won by an employee more than once? Here is an idea, can a member of the selection team be considered for an award? Would their vote not count in order to show no partiality? These questions and more will have to be answered in order to create a fair employee recognition program.

The Prize

A third step in starting an employee recognition program can be to figure out what kind of award will be given to the employee or group of employees. The winner of the recognition program could receive crystal awards. These beautiful and elegant awards can vary in size from small to large. Also, an engraving could be included on the award. The engraving could include the name of the award, employee, company, and include the date. This breathtaking award could be set up for the whole office to see on the desk of the winner. Another great idea would be to display the award on a shelf when you first walk into the building of the company.

Make It Official

A fourth step in starting an employee recognition program can be to finally publicize the name and officially start the program. The anticipated launch date has finally arrived and you are ready to announce it to the entire company. The announcement can be made known through a party, at a company meeting, or by issuing a mass email. Spread the word as quickly as possible to your entire company. Do your best to create some buzz about the new employee recognition program in order for your employees to work hard towards the prize. The announcement of the program should include the name of the award and when the nomination time frame will be.

Enjoy the Fruit of the Program

Employee recognition programs will boost morale in the workplace because employees are being recognized for the hard work. The result of this will be employees happy with their jobs and choosing to work for your company for the long run. This will cause your company to achieve higher success.
