As summer vacation is quickly coming to a close and the fall semester is about to begin again, this article takes a look at some of the things you should prepare for in college. At the surface, they may seem like horrible, evil things but don't worry too much about them, you will get through it. You will survive. You will become stronger, smarter, and perhaps faster because of them!

1) Being called on by the teacher when you don’t even have your hand raised.

The teacher asks a question and you don’t know the answer to it. Several of your classmates clearly do know the answer and have their hands raised high up in the air. Your teacher looks right at you like a lion stalking its prey. You try not to make eye contact, pretending to look over your notes as a way to divert their attention away from you. But it doesn’t work. Your name is called and your heart skips a beat. You break out in a cold sweat and you begin to hyperventilate. You finally muster up the courage to admit that you don’t know the answer and your teacher moves on to his or her next victim. You take a sip of the water that you should ALWAYS have with you for cases like this as your proceed to calm down and take a much needed breather after that whole ordeal.

2)Homework, homework, and even more homework

You have a 6-page essay due for your English class, a 30 question homework assignment for your math class, a field study for your science class, and another essay due for your History class. Sometimes, college expects you to be superman or superwoman and they just don’t comprehend that that’s impossible. This is where time management will be handy. Separate your days and times to focus on specific assignments. And of course, don’t wait until the night before to do them. Don’t do them all in one day because you will overwhelm your mind and body and that is just not a good thing to do while in college. It’s all about being stress free, as much as college allows you to be

3)Studying for material that isn’t even on the exam

Ah, yes! You’re going into a midterm or final exam confident that you know everything there is to know about it. You know how to find the slope of a line and then how to graph it. You know about the American Revolution and why it happened. You know the difference between rocks and minerals. You go into these exams knowing that you’re gonna ace them. However, as soon as your professor hands out the exams, you look at the questions and you realize that you’re in a different world. You’re in a different dimension. You’re looking at the questions and you see that it is in a different language like morse code or something. You didn’t study for this! You’ve never come across this a day in your life! So why would your professor do something like this? Well it’s all a part of being in college, so prepare yourself!

4) 8 A.M. Classes

When you think about things that are the makings of the devil, you might wanna add 8 am classes to that list. I only had one 8 am class in college and that was freshman year. NEVER AGAIN! They are evil and cannot be trusted! Do your best to stay away from them and get your 1-2 extra hours of sleep. Trust me, even 20 extra minutes of extra sleep will come in handy! Satan is doing his dirty work and it is clear in 8 am classes!

5) Going insane because of all this.

Insanity will creep up on you if/when you go through all of this! There really is no way to avoid it once it hits you. Just hang in there and you will be alright. College semesters feel like they take an eternity to go by, but they really are short. Just do your best to stay focused and you won’t be admitted into an asylum! There were times when I thought I was heading there, but I tried to remain stress free and kept focus and I was fine in the end. But insanity will be like your shadow. Sometimes it won’t be there, and other times, it will simply follow you through the night. Just don’t look at it directly and you’ll be alright!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
