With what seems like an eternity of winter on the brink of arrival, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the last minute things that one can best enjoy while the weather outside is only crisp, not cold, and while surroundings are vibrant instead of vacant.
1. Corn maze
Before the crops and trees completely die, and the ground is covered in snow, take a day to venture out of the city and spend time amongst nature. Certain places will let people sit around public campfires for free, which is a nice way to warm up after a day in the country.
2. Park photoshoot
If leaving the city is not an option, then grab some friends and go to either Millennium Park downtown, or even a neighborhood park to play, picnic or photograph the changing-color leaves before they're all gone. Fall is basically universally accepted as the most pleasant and photogenic of seasons, so take advantage of that before it's too late.
3. Six Flags
...Or whichever theme park is by you. It's the last chance to go, before the park closes for the winter! Save up and visit while you still have a chance. Tickets may even be discounted, and it's your last chance to go before next summer.
4. Pick a favorite coffee shop/reading spot
With the next couple of months being cold, it's natural to want to stay inside as much as possible. If you're like me though, the same four walls of your bedroom will get boring fast. This is why I am suggesting finding a nice coffee shop, lounge, library, or bookstore to occupy your free time, while still staying warm.
5. Practice baking what could become your signature holiday dish
With the holidays coming up, you may as well make your kitchen smell like a bakery as you perfect the dessert or food you're planning to bring to all the functions you attend. Practice makes perfect, so keep baking!
