Thanksgiving is a special holiday where everyone shares what they are thankful for. Also, this is the time to eat as much, especially if you have not had a home cooked meal since leaving for college. I am thankful for family, friends, good health and waking up every day. However, there are a few other things I am thankful for that I do not usually share at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

  1. Starbucks: As a normal college student, I need to stay up all night in order to get an assignment completed. Starbucks has assisted with this process greatly and I appreciate Starbucks being conveniently located on-campus. Although it has taken most of the money I receive from working, I can not complain because of the quality of their coffee and the low prices for it.
  2. Google: The search engine that is a powerful and most used tool in college. College consists of research papers, test, and presentations, which Google assist with all. It is very accessible when completing assignments and other school related tasks. My professors share their experience when they had to do research papers in college. It has changed greatly, because presently, we have access to much information in one location, whether this is on our phones, tablet, or computers. What I am thankful for about Google is that it is free! It cost absolutely nothing to look through millions of information and find exactly what you are looking for, right from your bed.
  3. Phone: My iPhone is my life. It holds all my memories such as pictures and videos. I attend a university in a different state as my home. When I miss my parents and my siblings, I can easily contact them and see them clearly by Facetime, a video connecting the call through Wifi. I can send messages to my friends who are on the same university campus or thousands of miles away to my dad currently working in Africa. My phone does everything I can imagine and helps me get into contact with the people I love, no matter how far away I am from them.

I am thankful year round, and especially in the month of November. Although I did not share this list of things I am thankful for at the dinner table, I am thankful for these few things as well as many others. I am beyond thankful, grateful, and blessed to have the life I am living.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
