From the deaths of Glenn Frey, Alan Rickman, Muhammed Ali, and Harper Lee, to the ENTIRE election, 2016 was the morning after hangover that made you feel like you'd been hit by a bus. Here are a few things that need to stay in 2016.... FOREVER...
1. The Donald Trump P*$$y Tape
Let's be honest, we were all ABSOLUTELY disgusted by all the things that were said on that tape. It was pretty much brought up in EVERY debate. I am in no way condoning what Donald Trump claimed he did or said in that tape, but it happened more than 10 years ago. What was said was said. The country made its decision to ignore it and vote him as our next president. Time to just let it go.
2. OSU vs Central Michigan Game
September 10th will forever resonate with OKState Cowboy's fans for the rest of our lives. Central Michigan was losing 24-27. Within the last second... Oh wait, NO second penalty on Mason Rudolph for intentional grounding, the refs granted an untimed possession. That's all it took. Central Michigan scored a touchdown, securing a 30-27 win over the Cowboys. Not only was Oklahoma State outraged by the call, but the entire nation would agree that Oklahoma State deserved that win. And in the nation's eyes, Oklahoma State was the winner. Although the refs of the game were suspended, it is forever a blemish on our football program that needs to be left in 2016...
3. Chip Reader vs Swipe Debate
When it comes to Credit Card Readers, I really wish someone would just make up their minds.... So do we just swipe our cards or do we insert the chip? Someone needs to make the call quick before 2017 gets here.
4. The ENTIRE Election
If there's only ONE thing that I wish would stay in 2016, it would be this year's election. If I had a dollar for the number of people I deleted or blocked on my Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, I would be able to pay for next semester's textbooks (and a few drinks from Murphy's). From cover-up scandals, to "grabbing her by the p*$$y" this election was a HUUUUUGE headache from the start. The nation spoke, and we have a new president. Whether you agree or disagree with the decision, it's time to let it go. Even though we have to have Trump as our president for the next four years, hopefully, we can leave his wall in 2016.
5. Celebrity Deaths
2016 took some of the best talent from us. Let us remember such deaths as Alan Rickman, Prince, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Harper Lee, Nancy Reagan, Doris Roberts, Muhammed Ali, Craig Sager, and Mr. Willy Wonka himself, Gene Wilder. We will forever remember them, but it's time to leave the mourning in the past.
6. Harambe
Harambe needs to stop. I feel like the terrible event that took place in 2016, was turned into a pop culture reference that had nothing to do with the situation that took place. A gorilla died and a boy was injured and of course we turned it into a spectacle by writing 'RIP Harambe' in the Murphy's bathroom. Harambe died in 2016 and needs to stay there.
7. Mannequin Challenge/Juju on that Beat
This was a "real crowd pleaser" for about 5 seconds and then we were over it. The mannequin challenge and juju-ing are not even real dancing. One you literally stand still and the other you just rock your shoulder's back in forth. I feel like we have already covered that dance move with the song "Lean Back" by Terror Squad (we left that in 2004). Juju-ing looks like the warm up you do before you start dancing.
8. Bone App the Teeth
*No Words*
9. The Song 'Closer' by The Chainsmokers
Admit it. This was your jam on your "Weekend Playlist" when it first came out. But after it has been over played, I am to the point where I am starting to question what is actually going on in the song. Let's take a look of some of the lyrics:
"Pull the sheets right off the corner of the mattress that you stole."
Obviously this girl should win roommate of the year.
"So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your rover,
That I know you can't afford.
Bite that tattoo on your shoulder"
You can't afford a range rover, but you can afford a tattoo? Maybe if you stopped spending your money on the tattoos and put it toward the range rover you may actually be able to afford it. OR you stole it like your mattress....
"Moved to the city in a broke down car."
I thought you owned a range rover?
10. VINE (RIP)
"Do it for the Vine" was relevant at the beginning of the year. Now with Instagram and Facebook stepping up their game, VINE is no more. Facebook has created Facebook Live, which allows you to post videos live and unedited. Instagram now has boomerang as well as being able to post videos. Maybe 2017, will bring a sitcom called "Vine Stars: Where are they now?"
RIP Vine 2012-2016
Although 2016 was the absolute worse, I look forward to what 2017. The best thing about 2016 though? Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY winning his Oscar.
