I don't know about you, but my boyfriend is hands down my best friend. We talk every day and see each other as often as humanly possible. In short, we spend a lot of time together. And after you start spending a lot of time with someone, you start to take some of the little things for granted, right? I'm going to address five things I need to thank my boyfriend for.
1. For embracing my weirdness.
I have weird interests and a weird sense of humor. I'm also scared of the dark and won't eat certain foods. Thank you for always being understanding of my quirks and not judging me or belittling me. You've always loved me for me, not because of any kind of front I put up. You listen to musicals with me and laugh at my nerdy jokes, and I will always be grateful for that.
2. For having your own kind of weirdness.
My boyfriend likes to do Civil War reenactments. Everybody is weird in their own way, but most people don't want to admit it. Thank you for being so unapologetically yourself and so comfortable in your skin. You teach me every day that it's okay that I am the way that I am by so confidently being yourself. You've often said that you are who you are and no one can change that, and I love you for it.
3. For making sure I always feel like the most beautiful woman on Earth.
When you show up at my house while I'm still in sweatpants and an oversized tee shirt and I'm still greeted with, "You look beautiful today," I know I've found a keeper. You tell me the same thing every time I see you, whether I'm dressed to the nines to go out on a date or I'm sitting at home in leggings and a hoodie. Thank you for always making me feel beautiful and appreciated, no matter what.
4. For coming to church with me and my family.
Two of the most important things in my life are my church and my family. Thank you for embracing both and making them a part of your life. I love seeing you talk to my cousins or work on old equipment with my grandfather, because it shows me that you not only love me, but my family, too. And in my family, if you're dating one of us, you're dating the whole family.
5. For listening to me talk about things you might not understand, but you know it's important to me.
When I'm going on about something that happened in Fluid Mechanics? When I'm yelling at the TV about politics? You still listen and pay attention because you know that, even if it doesn't mean much to you, it means a lot to me. Thank you for always listening to what I have to say. And thank you for telling me when I'm in the wrong, because that shows me that you care enough to help me.
Relationships are hard, and it isn't always roses and rainbows. But the good times and the good things are what make you work hard to get rid of the bad things. Thank you for always staying by my side.
