While you're away at college, you begin to realize all of the things and feelings you have taken for granted. There is a completely different lifestyle that you're forced to conform to when you live on campus and away from your family, but once you go home you become overwhelmed with joy to have your favorite necessities back. Here's what I miss most about home.
1. Taking normal showers
I seriously miss showering with no shoes on-- I never thought I would say this. Although I'm all for being sanitary, showering with rubber flip flops on everyday gets really old, really quickly. Not only that, but it's so nice to not have to carry a shower caddy every day when you're at home. Also, being able to sing in the shower without weirding people out is a perk.
2. Home-cooked meals
While I definitely love the food in my dining halls and in my college town, nothing beats a meal made by Mom or Dad in the comfort of your own kitchen. Plus, you don't have to worry about closing hours because your fridge and pantry are stocked 24/7!
3. Your car
Walking to campus is a nice form of exercise, but the weather is always unexpected. Walking to class in the freezing cold or when it's really hot is such a struggle, and you begin to miss your car so badly. After walking everywhere or taking the bus, you just want to take control, hop into your own car, turn on the radio, and drive.
Sorry, but twin XL isn't cutting it for this girl. It's hard to sleep on a crammed bed when there's a queen sized, softer, cozier one at home calling your name each night.
5. A full-sized bathroom
What a struggle for us ladies. Our bathroom is our sanctuary - it's where we prep before going out, take long showers, and most importantly, do our makeup. A tiny sink in the corner of the dorm without a full length mirror can be such a bummer sometimes.
6. A convenient way of doing laundry
At college, you especially become grateful of your washing machine and dryer at home. Not only are all the machines usually full in college, but you have to pay each time you want to wash or dry your loads of laundry. Going downstairs to find out that there are no available machines is never fun.
7. Your family
It's always nice to enjoy some freedom and independence, but at the end of the day, you miss your people the most. Going home and being reunited is the best feeling in the world! While you will meet fantastic people at college, you'll begin to miss things about your parents and siblings - from your petty arguments with them to the way they know exactly how to make you smile.
I love the school that I am thankful enough to come back to, but while I'm away from home, I realize all of the things I miss the most. Never take advantage of the simple things in life, you'll miss them when they aren't around!
