Things To Do On Long Island In The Summer

Now that it's July, everyone is finally out of school. That gives great opportunities for family outings with your siblings, or even just taking the child you babysit out exploring. Living on Long Island really has its perks during the summer with the limitless beaches and countless activities going on at all times. I've started to realize that there is just so much going on that I find myself struggling to keep up. Although, over the past few years, I've really found some great activities and spots to visit if you want to enjoy the summer time!

Long Beach

We all know that living on Long Island guarantees no more than a half hour ride to the nearest beach. With that being said, everyone seems to find themselves at Jones Beach or Robert Moses. I have found a hidden gem in Long Beach because first off, there's free parking. To just add a cherry on top, it is rarely crowded and you can always get a big spot for you and your friends. Long Beach also has an awesome boardwalk that you can ride your bike on just like Jones Beach.

The only downside I've come to notice about Long Beach is that you can see container ships off in the distance. To me, that isn't an issue but some people do go just for the view so I thought I'd add that.

Diner By the Sea–Long Beach

A few years ago, this diner blew up everyone's Instagrams and Snapchats because of their colorful milkshakes. Even now, they have added colorful pancakes to their menu, as well as their food being delicious. Every time I head out to Long Beach, I always make sure to stop here for some colorful delights.

Jones Beach Theater–Jones Beach, Wantagh

Everyone has come to know and love the Jones Beach Theater because of its amazing view over the water. This is probably the only venue where people would be satisfied with nose bleed seats. The view speaks for itself.

A tip for the broke college kid:

You can still go to this parking lot (for free) and tailgate for a concert you'd want to see without having tickets. Then, when the event starts you can relax on the beach in the parking lot and technically hear them live for free!

The Waterfront Center–Oyster Bay

This has always been a go-to place for me in the summer. For anyone that loves being on the water, this place is for you. There are tons of opportunities to spend your day out on the water either in a kayak, stand-up paddle board or sailboat. They also have really great prices and long hours.

Theodore Roosevelt Park–Oyster Bay

While you're over by the Waterfront Center, Theodore Roosevelt Park is just a five minute walk away. With basketball courts, tennis courts, football field, baseball field, playgrounds and beach access, there is nothing more you could ask for. This is a great and free place to spend the day.

Long Island Aquarium–Riverhead

This is another place I grew up frequenting. For any marine creature lover, even yourself, this is a great way to spend the day. From being able to feed stingrays to walking in a shark tunnel and looking at walls of fish, you'll be fascinated the whole day. Don't forget to check out their seal shows or even check out their recently added butterfly and bird exhibits. In the butterfly and bird exhibits, the creatures are able to land on you, giving a chance for an interaction–which I love.

I hope you enjoyed taking a look at some of my top Long Island places, as well as learned something new or saw a place that caught your eye. While these are my favorite places, that doesn't stop me from exploring and finding something new. Have a great summer and enjoy exploring your Island!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
