Now that I'm a high school graduate and being thrown out into the real world reflecting on my high school time is something I've been doing. There's been quite a few things that I've learned from my four years in high school.
1. Put yourself out there. You're here for four years of your life, which is a long time, so if you spend it being a timid person who doesn't take chances you will regret it.
2. They (whoever that is) are right; the time goes by fast. As long as those four years are, come graduation day you will look back on it and it will feel like just yesterday that you were that scared, little fourteen year old walking through the doors of your "future."
3. It isn't the best four years of your life. The same people that say the time goes by fast also say that it's the best four years of your life. That part is definitely wrong. I spent the first three years stuck in friend drama and figuring out where I stand. By senior year, I had a bit more figured out. The thing is if you think high school is the best four years of your life you're bound to miss out on the next best four years of your life with that attitude.
4. Experience life at a young age. The best way to do this is go to the lame school dance and take late night ice cream runs with your friends. So go to prom, even thought it's not that fun, it's a lot better than listening to everyone talk about it the next day. Make friends with anyone and everyone. Branch out and be social.
5. People change; even you. I guarantee that the friends you have a close knit bond with when you walk through the doors will somehow be changed when you walk out. You can't hold a grudge over it because at some point you will go through change too. So try to rekindle the friendship that started you off but also don't dwell on it.
6. It is what you make it. This is the most important lesson I learned. High school isn't the most exciting aspect of your life so if you don't want it to be boring, make it fun. Want to remember it by countless Friday nights watching Netflix or countless Friday nights filled with laughs and the feeling of pure happiness being surrounded by the people that understand you the most? You decide.
