When I started at the College of Engineering two years ago little did I know that I would learn a lot more than just (lots and lots of) math and science. There is a high boy to girl ratio in engineering, so my friend group has grown to include mostly guys. Ever since freshman year I’ve been on the road to becoming an honorary bro and I’ve learned quite a bit from the guys.
1. You become their go-to person for advice on girls.
You somehow become a relationship guru when it comes to your guy friends. You’re always there to help them decode the secret language of girls.
2. In turn, they become your go-to person for advice on boys.
It might not always be the advice you’re looking for when you’re overanalyzing everything about a guy, but it’s always nice to get a guy’s point of view. I mean, they’re the experts, right?
3. You become the "Mom" of the group.
You’re usually in charge of the planning for the group, and you know everyone’s schedule by heart (sometimes better than they do). But don’t worry, you’re a cool Mom.
4. Eventually they stop apologizing for making their "guy jokes."
When you first start hanging out with a bunch of guys they apologize for making their (typically) inappropriate “guy jokes,” but after awhile they couldn’t care less that you’re standing right there.
5. They still get weirded out when you talk about "girl stuff."
Despite the fact that you listen to them talk about "guy stuff" 24/7, the minute you mention your period they try to change the subject.
6. Guys will act like girls, too.
Mood swings and being overly dramatic aren’t just girl things. Guy PMS is definitely real.
7. When it comes to sports, they won't cut you any slack--even if it's just FIFA.
You better always bring your A game.
8. You shouldn't be too sensitive when they make fun of you.
You learn to grow a thick skin because you soon realize that everything you say and do is in the running for being the next joke.
9. They always have your back.
You feel safe with them, especially when you have to walk home late at night. You know that if anything happens, they’ll be right there to protect you.
10. Everyone is always convinced that you're dating one of them.
People always think that there’s something going on between you and one of your guy friends. You find yourself constantly explaining that you guys are just friends.
11. You're never getting into a frat party with them.
With a terrible guy to girl ratio, you can kiss your chances of getting into a frat party goodbye.
12. They will always be there for you when you're down.
Even if they don’t always know how to show it, you can count on them to cheer you up.
13. They become just like brothers to you.
Sometimes you love them. Sometimes you hate them. At the end of the day they're just like brothers to you.
14. You accept the fact that there are some things you'll never understand.
There are some things that your guy friends say and do that you’ll never get.
