Sometimes it's hard to remember that you're under the age of 25. You have a college tuition to pay for and work five days a week while the other two days are spent cramming in time for family, a spouse, or friends. But as young adults or older teenagers, we have to remember that we don't need to grow up so fast. Now is the time to make some mistakes here and there. It shouldn't have to be about if you have to get up at eight a.m. the next day. You owe it to yourself to go have coffee on a Tuesday and talk in the car until midnight, go home, and wing that paper.
Just because you are having to work your butt off with a job and school doesn't mean you don't deserve a spa night or a night full of an entire pizza with Netflix alone. It's better for you to set aside time for yourself. That way, you won't go absolutely mad about having to be somewhere at all times. There will be nights where you just have to wing a paper here and there, or it may not be your best performance at work. This is how you learn how far you can push yourself until you need to step back and breathe. If you ignore your time you may cause a worse consequence than if you didn't. Would you rather have left a paragraph off a draft or sleep through a final exam? There is always a greater of two evils.
Life is too short to spend your young adulthood as an old grandma who is stuck in her house! Go out with friends when you don't feel up to it, and put yourself out there or else you may regret it some day. Don't be afraid to make plans with someone you haven't seen since high school or someone you met in you orientation class.
This should explain itself, but you're never too old for your childhood movies and shows. Let's be honest, 90's and older shows are way better than what is on TV now. They make you laugh and cry and there's nothing better feeling nostalgia from your childhood. You shouldn't let anyone tell you you're too old for anything from your childhood. Just because you're growing up doesn't mean you have to forget about your childhood and the goods feelings it brought.
You deserve anything you put your heart to. And if that's a new pair of shoes or a video game, you should go for it if you have money to spare. I think sometimes we forget about the things we should enjoy in life. We try to tell ourselves that we don't need it. But, if you constantly save and spend your hard-earned money on tuition or bills, I would say set aside a bit for yourself that way you can treat yourself for your hard work and dedication. It could be as insignificant as a Venti coffee at Starbucks or a new t-shirt; just something that proves that all your work is worth while.
As children we always wanted to grow up faster than we could, but we should take time slowly and enjoy what is right in front of us. So go run yourself a bath or watch Netflix for eight hours. Remember to take care of yourself and your mind and know that your hard work will pay off.
