Childhood flashbacks to an extreme.

Here it is. That magical time of the year when swing-like tunes fill the air and the smell of cookies fill your kitchen (and certainly fill your stomach). I’ve noticed a lot has changed over the past ten-or-so years. Although the trend of creating a Christmas wish list hasn’t ever changed, the trend of the things put on that list sure have. As my mom would say, here’s the somewhat hilarious list of what every little girl wanted for Christmas “back in the day.”

1. Razor Scooter

Whether you wanted one with pom-poms out the handles or you wanted to keep it classic, you could shred on those! I took mine everywhere with me. Even better knowing it folds up! Also, don’t forget about the list of sick tricks you could pull on a Razor. Endless competitions with my neighbor friends, endless fun.

2. Zhu Zhu Pets

Mom wouldn’t let you get a real pet? All you needed to do was ask for one of these bad boys! Cheap and entertaining, Zhu Zhu pets came in many different colors and designs so you could get your very own, personalized pet.

3. Moon Shoes

Just as high as you could bounce on these things, these topped my Christmas wish list! Dreams came true when you strapped on these block shoes. In a matter of seconds, you could go from bored to jumping for joy anywhere and anytime you want!

4. Nintendo DS

An intelligent improvement to the Gameboy, the Nintendo DS operated with not only one screen but two!

5. Skip-It

Aka a great way for Mom to get you outside.

6. Heelys

Dangerous but oh so exciting. You knew the rebellious kids at school when you’d see them roll down the hallways in their Heelys when all teachers made it clear that Heelys weren’t allowed to be used!

7. Hair Color Chalk

No one showed us bright hair color better than Avril Lavigne.

8. Robotic Dog Speaker

I don’t know why but this was a thing. Didn’t last long, but it definitely hit a lot of homes one select Christmas.

9. SingStar Playstation Game

What better way to challenge your friends to see who’s the better singer? With all the songs you could find on this game, someone in my house must have been annoyed from all the noise being projected through those cord-attached microphones.

10. Scoobie String

Keychains, bracelets and any shape imaginable… name it and I could make it!

11. Dance Dance Revolution Mat

What. A. Workout.

12. Furby

One word to describe these fury friends: CREEPY.

13. Claire’s Makeup Set

Makeup to little girls is very different than the world’s idea of makeup. Don’t believe me? Look at one of these makeup sets with 50 different assorted eyeshadows and see what I’m talking about.

14. Tamagotchi

Not only could you take care of the little digital pet you were given upon your Tamagotchi device, but you could also accidentally (or purposely I suppose) kill your Tamagotchi pet. Say what? Best way to teach children responsibility!

15. Floam

If only Bill Nye the Science Guy did an episode on the making of Floam, it would have been an even bigger thing! Still cool though.

16. Etch A Sketch

If you messed up, you were screwed.

17. Easy Bake Oven

Looks sweet and better yet, made sweets! However, the Easy Bake Oven wasn’t so sweet when you learned the process of cleaning up after baking.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
