With the November 2016 election coming sooner than we think, politics seem to have taken over the world around us. Everyone is constantly talking about the candidates, and honestly, it has become a very exciting race to the finish. (To say the least.)
This is not an article speaking on behalf of my beliefs nor anyone else's. It is simply about the importance of nationalism and the love we should have for our fellow Americans.
As we know whether by word of mouth or by how it is portrayed in the media, there is a distinct line between the Republican and Democratic parties, which is understandable. There will never come a point in time where everyone can agree on their views and that is OK. What I'm here to discuss is the anger that has developed inside of me watching the hatred between my fellow Americans. It truly sickens me and makes me ashamed.
Recently, I have been exposed to many different stories and videos in the media and the news that have truly made me feel disgusted. While scrolling through Facebook a few nights ago I came across a video montage of men and women getting sabotaged coming out of an event held in favor of Donald Trump. Now I am not favoring either party nor will I include my views, but after seeing this I locked my phone and just stared at the wall. I was in disbelief and hurt. I felt sorry for not only those getting attacked but those attacking because they felt the need to result to this behavior. Know there are many more videos like this being taken all over the country involving both parties switching roles. To those reading this, I am not against the anti-Trump protestors. It was just the exact video I came across, and for those who haven't seen this video it is posted below:
No matter what your political affiliation, this should and can not be accepted.
Just because someone has different views than yourself that does not mean they do not deserve to be treated as a human. Your views do not mean you are an awful person, and they do not mean you need to be viciously attacked. They have every right to protect what they wish to stand for.
Now with this being said, how can we be proud to be an American when we speak up for ourselves and get attacked, screamed at or even killed? We have fought for decades to protect our freedom and a special aspect called freedom of speech. Even if in times like these, it may not feel like it, but we do have the freedom to have our own opinions. I am disgusted to see my fellow Americans attack others and use violence to try and prove a point. There comes a time in your life where you realize violence is not the answer nor is it the mature way to handle a situation. These people lack the education and maturity to fully understand others. Hurting others will never lead to a positive end result.
We as a nation need to keep in mind that we are all on the same team. We want the best for ourselves and our country, no matter how different our views may be.
