My fellow Americans,
Right now, in this very moment, we are inching closer and closer to our own demise as a nation. It is a time of violence, hatred, and two equally horrible presidential candidates. As much as we all choose to ignore the mess of a country we are becoming-- as if there are not simple solutions that could start a chain reaction, we need to finally put our foot down and get it together.
For one thing, we are "the land of the free, home of the brave," aren't we? If we are so "free" and "brave" then what is with this whole public bathroom issue? A little contradicting, no? We allow freedom to all of our people. Freedom to live a life they choose to live, however that may be. If a man wants to live his life as a woman, then let him. If a woman wants to live her life as a man, that is her right.
As far as bravery is concerned, if you are constantly worrying about who is taking a pee next to you, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, you probably walk by harmful and potentially dangerous people every single day. Chances are, they aren't all hiding in public bathrooms. Some may be, but some people may just have to take a tinkle. Its the twenty first century, people. Times have changed, technology is evolving, and both Pokemon and Aaron Carter are making a comeback. All we can really do is adapt to it. We all want to feel comfortable in our own skin, and NO ONE deserves to have that right stripped from them.
Secondly, the battle between #BlackLivesMatter, #BlueLivesMatter, and #AllLivesMatter has to stop. Unfortunately, there are some people in this country who assume that if you are pro #BlackLivesMatter, that automatically means you are anti-police and vice versa. Likewise, if you are pro #AllLivesMatter, that means you are CLEARLY against police and are a hardcore racist. These movements are becoming a misunderstood mess that is only creating more tension between groups of people that doesn't need to exist.
At the end of the day, no heartbeat is more important than another, whether you are black, white, blue, or purple. The human life is a precious gift we are all given. For someone to be so careless as to wish death upon ANY group of people is simply cruel and heartless, and someone who should be ashamed to consider them self an American. It is time we start treating each other as equal. Treat the janitor the same way you would treat the CEO. Love one another. Until then, this country will never know what unity truly feels like.
This presidential election is an entire story in itself. Now, before we get into cutthroat political talk, here is a little disclaimer: I have the right to express my feelings about the election just as you have the right to disagree. I truly believe the only thing we are promised from this 2016 election is a scary outcome. For one thing, we are choosing between a ignorant racist and a liar who is under FBI investigation for using a home email server in order to discuss classified information.
Most American citizens at this point in an election would have a candidate who they truly believe will be the best fit for our nation's president and firmly stand up for their political ideology. However, for this 2016 election, most people feel as though they can only choose the lesser of two evils. This is not how it should have to be. I am thoroughly terrified for the future of this nation. If you are a Hillary or Trump supporter, I would personally like to hear your argument for why you believe they would be a good fit. If you say something along the lines of "to make America great again" or "she's better than Trump," your argument is no longer valid. (P.S If you do support Hillary, watch the movie or read the book "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi." You won't love her so much after that.)
This article was not written in attempts to get a rise out of anyone. This article was not written to explain why America stinks, but at the same time, it was. The United States of America is an outstanding country full of opportunity, good food, great people, and the potential to build yourself a fantastic life from the ground up. However, we are allowing this nation to fall into pieces due to the hate and violence that is spread from all different angles. It is time we stop focusing in on the media (who only tells you the bad stuff) and we start building off of the good. Spread a little more love, because believe it or not, it's still there.
What people don't understand is that one person has the ability to make a significant change. I'm so sick and tired of the "Well, there's nothing I can really do about that" excuse. There certainly is. For one thing, quit being so pessimistic. We have enough pessimists in this world that if we have one more I'll lose my mind. Secondly, if you don't feel like you have it in you to make a change, then keep your mouth shut and step out of the way for the people who do. Third, if you feel like watching others make a change would make you feel left out, then put a little pep in your step, get off your butt, and get started on planning how you're going to do it. Educate one another. Help one another. Empower one another. You have it in you to make a change, you just have to find the motivation to do it. One small drop creates an entire ripple effect. Let's get this country back to where it should be.
Sincerely,
A brutally honest (but proud) American.
