Being home and being at college both have their ups and downs. There are good parts and bad parts of both living at college and being home with your family. Now that I have been home for a month, I find myself missing my college more than I thought I would. There are some aspects of my college town that I can’t find anywhere else. Here are some of those things:
1. The weather.
In my home town it is currently 60 degrees and rainy. It has been like this for weeks. Back in Florida during my second semester it was 75 degrees and sunny out since December. I’m missing that kind of weather right about now.
2. Being able to walk places.
Nothing can be closer and more condensed than a college campus. It was manageable to walk to the gym, get food, and to your friends dorm in less than 20 minutes. At home, the walk involves at least ten minutes to any other civilization and crossing a few highways, so we find it better to drive.
3. Living closer to my friends.
Going along with the previous one, it’s so much easier to get different places and you don’t have to depend on your car or public transportation as much. It saves money on gas and is more convenient to walk than to depend on a vehicle.
4. Independence.
There is no one that you have to inform on your every move while you are away at college. You are allowed to go out at 3 AM and get the food you want or wander around the kitchen without worrying about waking anyone up.
5. Not being as dependent on money.
I feel as though I spent less money at college than I do at home. I was not dedicating twenty dollars to gas and endless amount of money to food every week, so I found it easier to budget myself.
6. The scenery.
Specifically for Florida State University, I find myself missing the scenery such as the palm trees and the thousands of red bricks that almost every building seems to be made out of.
