Have you ever had every single step of your life planned out days, months, maybe even years before it actually happens? Or perhaps you don't even have the present day planned out? Or maybe you're somewhere in the middle? As a person who is currently living out the third thing I said, I can guarantee you that if you are confused about what is coming next in your life, it is perfectly okay.
You don't always have to know everything. Actually, chances are you don't know everything and, even if you do, you probably actually don't. I used to think that my future was set in stone—I would be working in a gym as a personal trainer and a Zumba instructor, and if things went really well I would even own my own gym.
As a rising Junior in college, I'm starting to realize that things really aren't that simple, and there are a lot more things in my life that I'm not sure about than I am sure about. However, I've also realized that this is perfectly fine. We live in a society where we are expected to be sure of ourselves at such a young age and have our whole lives planned out because that is the safe route. However, I have learned from personal experience that just because you aren't sure what the next stage of your life, it doesn't mean that you aren't prepared to take on whatever it is that ends up coming your way.
It's actually a really cool thing to not know what comes next. Although it can be a scary and uncertain road, it gives you the opportunity to fully rely on God and His plan for your life. As I said, I am currently facing several uncertainties in my life, and part of me is scared to death, yet part of me is excited because I know that it means God is preparing something big for me that will be revealed in His perfect timing.
Although I still have two years left of school before I enter the "real world," I have friends who are at that point now.
"'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" God promises us this truth in Jeremiah 29:11, and this is a great verse to live by, especially for my friends who are taking the leap of faith into life currently. Even though I'm not sure what it is exactly that I am supposed to do with my life, and I know many of you reading this are in the exact same boat, I do know that God has an amazing and unique purpose for me and my life, and I know that whatever it is that I end up pursuing, God will guide and direct my path.
Even though the future is unclear sometimes, that is perfectly alright. We don't have to have it all together all the time, and we don't always have to know what it is that we are meant to do because everything will work out in perfect timing.
