So, you’re looking around you and all you see is couples. All your close friends and family members are in relationships and it feels like you’re the only one in the world who doesn’t have a significant other. You want a part of the action too, right? Who says you have to miss out?
I’m here to reassure you: it’s okay that you’re single.
No matter where you are in your life, there is nothing wrong with being single. Many people look down on it, but in fact, there’s something to be said for not being in a relationship.
If the right person hasn’t come into your life yet, don’t worry. They’re out there. There’s nothing wrong with being picky (anyone who is in a relationship can tell you that). It is from this pickiness that you find the person who is truly wonderful for you.
Wait it out with patience, because when that person comes into your life, I promise, the wait will be worth it. Nothing else will matter, except for the fact that you have finally found this other half of yours, the person who makes you the happiest man or woman in the world. The wait won’t matter. The person will.
If you’ve chosen to focus on yourself before getting into a relationship, pat yourself on the back (proverbially, of course). There’s nothing wrong with caring for others. But it’s also important to ensure that you’re healthy and happy as well.
Perhaps it’s not a good time for you to be in a relationship. Whatever the circumstances, whatever the scenario, there’s nothing wrong with taking a step back.
Take your time. If there’s no one special in your life right now, take this moment to work on you. Spend this time to rediscover yourself, care for your own health, take up a new hobby… the list is endless. But most importantly, work on making yourself happiest and the best person you can be. Make peace with yourself, and peace will come to those around you.
In short, don’t look down on the single life. There are many benefits. Being in a relationship isn’t better than being single, and vice versa. There are things to be said for both.
It’s wonderful to be in a relationship. But sometimes, it’s just as wonderful to be single instead.
