There’s No Place Like Nebraska….Seriously.
I was born in California and moved to Colorado when I was eight years old. When people ask where I am from, I usually say Colorado. Most of my schooling happened there, I learned to drive there, and I graduated from high school there. For all intensive purposes, I was raised a Colorado girl. I love everything about Colorado. The mountains are amazing, the people are friendly, and there is always something to do outdoors. It was a great place to grow up.
As a senior in high school, my Dad and I went on a campus visit to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Coming into the visit, I didn’t have any expectations and the university wasn’t super high on my list of colleges. Not yet, at least.
We were lucky enough to get tickets the Husker homecoming game against Wisconsin...in the student section.
I had no idea what I was in for.
First of all, there’s no sitting. If you are in the student section, you stand the entire game.
Second of all, there are hand motions that go along with the cheers and the band.
Third of all, you better like doing the wave, because it goes on and on and on.
And finally, any call against the Huskers is ridiculous and the referees obviously hate Nebraska.
But, here is something you might not know: by going to a Husker game, you become part of something incredible. It’s much bigger than you are, and the feeling that you get during the tunnel walk is indescribable.
People often say, “There is no place like Nebraska.” and I couldn’t agree more. The air seems sweeter, the people are kinder, and the spirit of the Husker faithful is intoxicating.
I’ve never been prouder to scream, “Go Big Red!”
