7 Lessons I Learned In Therapy That Proves Everyone Should Go To Therapy, Even If You’re 'Fine'

Sometimes I get good article inspiration from scrolling through Pinterest, especially when I'm having some writers' block. This time was no exception. I was scrolling, and I found a graphic called, "Lessons from Therapy" by crazyhead comics. It's a small list, and I thought they were extremely important for me to see, as I've been struggling a little bit with my mental health lately. I thought about it, and I realized that these lessons can be applicable to anyone.

1. If you don't face your irrational fears, you allow them to control you

This is something that is easier to say than practice. Letting go of fears is hard, but I've always found some success in it, even if it wasn't the success I thought I was looking for.

2. Your attitude matters, and your mindset shapes your experiences

This is so true. Just take school as an example. On the days where I don't feel like going to class or doing assignments, I have such a terrible time doing the things. When I'm excited about it, I enjoy it a lot more. This can be applied to a bunch of different experiences that we have.

3. You can be the kindest person in the world, and some people still won't like you

I struggle with this one a lot, I like to think I am a kind person — I treat everyone I meet with respect no matter my feelings towards them. I still take it really hard when a person doesn't like me, and I tend to fixate on why. I'm still successful though, and that doesn't change based on the fact of whether a certain person likes me.

4. Happiness is a feeling, not a goal. Happiness can never be constant, and that is OK.

We are all human, and we all have a wide range of feelings. Our feelings are valid.

5. Stop looking for external validation — the opinions of others have of you is not a mirror

All that matters is that you are your most authentic self.

6. Question your thoughts sometimes.  Not everything you think is the truth.

Question everything. It makes you a more open minded person.

7. You deserve the space you embody — stand tall

This speaks for itself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
