The Wrap-Up From All 3 Presidential Debates

I have made it no secret on who I’ve pledged full support towards in this election season. When she announced her bid for the presidency in April of 2015, Hillary Clinton was a candidate I immediately latched onto. I did have a soft spot for Bernie Sanders, but I took much more of a pragmatic, realistic approach to my choice for who I wish to lead the free world. Given the experience from the former FLOTUS, Secretary of State, and current Senator, Hillary Clinton was the most obvious choice. Through scores of rallies, the primary season, both conventions, and through three debates, my support for the most qualified person of the remaining candidates has not waned, especially who she’s going up against on the other side.

During the primary season, I could watch an actual debate between two rational, mature adults in Hillary and Bernie. On the other side, what I watched were not debates, but something akin to Mean Girls, with Donald Trump playing the role of Regina George. Viewing the stark differences between the two sides’ primary debates, one universal thought circulated through my head: “Be it Bernie or Hillary, they are going to have their hands full with whoever comes out of the GOP. Double if Donald wins.”

After a long, drama-filled primary season ended with Hillary Clinton winning the Democratic Nomination and Donald Trump winning the GOP Nomination, the conventions soon followed in Cleveland and Philadelphia. We saw the same usual banter and rhetoric seen at the respective conventions. The GOP convention provided us with a doom and gloom for a prospective future, while the Democratic convention provided us more a brighter, more optimistic view of the country’s future. Hillary nailed it very succinctly, along with a harbinger of things to come: “A man you can bait with a Tweet is somebody we can trust with nuclear weapons.”

Debate #1

Fast forward to Debate #1 between the two prospective candidates, with Lester Holt (or Jon Lester, depending on who you believe.) moderating from Hofstra University in New York. This was where fact-checking of both candidates was to be done in real time. It set the tone for all three debates.

Bait number one was successfully laid by Hillary, who mentioned that Donald Trump ACTIVELY rooted for the housing market to collapse so he could swoop in and buy houses in 2006. Not admitting to a SHRED of guilt, he admitted that it was good business.

We don’t call that ‘good business,’ you imbecile. We call that being a LEECH. A more educated response is to say that you’re no better than ANY LOAN SHARK.

He later admitted to not releasing his tax returns LIKE EVERY OTHER PRESIDENT BEFORE HIM because he was ‘under audit,’ even though the IRS has REITERATED SEVERAL TIMES before that you can release your tax returns regardless of an audit or not. More on his taxes later..

…and this is where the immature, tit for tat mentality was revealed to the country, saying that he will release his tax returns when she releases the emails she deleted on a private server.

Did I mention more on his taxes later? Good. That is where I will pick up the discussion on his taxes, or lack thereof since 1995, leading us to bait number two set up brilliantly by Hillary. She mentioned that he declared ALMOST A BILLION DOLLAR LOSS. Again, shamelessly admitting it makes him smart.

No, it doesn't make you smart. It makes you selfish for contributing BUTKISS to veterans, schools, first responders, et al.

The chutzpah for somebody with MULTIPLE BANKRUPTCIES FILED to mention that he knows about money is laughable. For the record, those are public. Everything else is run privately through the Trump organization, so who knows how much he is in the hole. When there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Speaking of fire: how about that temperament, Donald?

Debate #2

This was more of an intense debate, moderated by Anderson Cooper from CNN and Martha Raddatz of ABC News, held at Washington University in St. Louis. It got personal and nasty right from the get-go, not shaking hands as they did prior to the first debate. There were many mind games being played, with Donald Trump inviting four women whom former President Clinton had sexual relations with. Kind of ironic as it came on the heels of an Access Hollywood tape being released with him and Billy Bush on hot mics back in 2005. Donald Trump had said some very vulgar things regarding women, including ‘grabbing them by the pussy, using Tic Tacs to kiss women’ because as a star, he can get away from anything. Oh, you could not be more wrong on so many levels if you could. One, groping one’s genitalia is SEXUAL ASSAULT. Two, as a star, you can’t get away with anything. Ask Paris Hilton from 2007. Three, you don’t even realize that, by inviting former President Clinton’s victims of sexual relations, YOU ARE USING THEM AS WELL! They may have gotten past that, but you stoked the dangerous flames of the past into those women. I don’t think Shaquille O’Neal will be inviting Katelyn Faber to Kobe Bryant’s Hall of Fame speech to prove a point.

Anyways, to the debate where it was announced that it would be a Town Hall debate where undecided audience members would ask questions to the two candidates.

The first question was, given the baggage that carried over between debate #1 and that night, quite apropos. It related to many junior high and high school teachers having their students watch the debates as homework, so the question of the appropriate role model was posed. Being the adult in the room, Hillary modeled presidential-like behavior answering that question. Donald? Not even close. He defended his piggish behavior and commentary from the leaked Access Hollywood tape, relating it to "locker room talk." I’ll let some pro ballers tackle THAT issue:

He knew he was guilty as sin, so he tried to race off that issue and into the ISIS issue. Fast. Anderson Cooper kept Trump on the ropes, not letting him deviate from the question asked: Had he done those things?

Clinton was right to challenge Trump on the fitness to serve. He has a long, known history of racism and sexism, including his refusing to rent to minorities, and the tapes that were released. Trump’s response was ‘they’re just words.’ Yeah. Words can be very powerful when YOU’RE THE LEADER OF THE MOST POWERFUL MILITARY IN THE WORLD! If you can not control the words that leave your mouth on a hot mic when it comes to women, how the hell can I trust your wordage with the button right next to you?

You keep on deflecting all of your indiscretions onto Bill Clinton.

One more time, for the people in the back:

Bill.

Clinton.

Is.

Not.

Running.

For.

President.

I would mention something relating to your sniffles, but to quote Michelle Obama: “When they go low, you go high.”

And then you respond to a criticism of your temperament with: “You’d be in jail.” Okay, so you resort to childish, immature, smart-ass remarks with educated criticism of you. Wonderful. I know 10-year-olds who don’t do that. It’s the equivalent of: “I know you are, but what am I?”

We saw a lot of what amounts to a teenager arguing with his or her parent, and ALWAYS needing the last word.

ALWAYS.

And a lot more of the same banter carried over from debate #1.

Debate #3

Ah, the ‘nasty woman’ has finally caught up to the Donald, making him (again) his own worst enemy.

Again, you tweet recklessly at three AM.

Again, we have nothing really new here.

Hillary CLEARLY has shown more of a calmer temperament than Trump has. The debates proved that. Donald proved nothing more than an uncivilized monkey (damn, maybe he IS the son of an orangutan!) Hillary speaks more from experience. Trump speaks from delusion.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
