We hate to acknowledge this even as adults but, mom was right! When it comes to winter weather, now is not the time to fake being warm. We all know after a long day the first thing we do on a wintery day is rush home, throw on sweats, and grab our blankets, fast! To avoid the, “I told you so’s,” here are some staple items you should own ASAP Frosty.
1. Durable Winter Jacket
Look out for holiday sales and don’t hesitate to buy! A good jacket means not having to wear a sweater or multiple layers underneath to stay warm, unless it’s a fashion statement. And relax, a good winter jacket doesn’t have to mean those old school puffer jackets you’re parents through you in, they can be cute!
2. Blankets
Having a nice plushy throw blanket will keep you cozy during every night. Sometimes you want to chill in a common space but don’t want to put the extra layers on to be comfy. At a reasonably low cost this could also save you during the winter break when your parents try to blame the spike in the heating bill on you!
3. High Socks
Even if you have solid winter boots the rigid winter can still quickly get to your feet. Often times we also forget about our ankles and our calves, which can easily get cold from gusts of wind that flow through.
4. Sweats
After a long day spent at work, running errands or out with friends its nice to come home to change into sweats and relax. After all, once the sweatpants and sweatshirt come on that officially means your tuning out from any stress of the day!
5. Knit Hat
I don’t know about you but once my ears go cold everything else does too! If you’re a girl protect yourself from the inevitable pain that follows with wind freezing the metal of your earrings! In addition your precious head is a prime candidate for losing heat early so try to prohibit that from happening early.
6. Scarfs
On the especially cold days you wont regret bringing your scarf! The top benefit of a scarf is that it will block the cold from the small gap that your jacket can’t seem to cover. No wind will get into your jacket and not heat can escape, it’s a win-win situation!
7. Hand Warmers
Most gloves that you are probably getting are on more of the fashionable side rather than practical to keep you warm. On a day that you’re out for a long –period of time such as ice skating in Bryant Park or just doing wintery activities with friends its for your benefit to through these in your pockets for added warmth!
8. Hot Chocolate
Now I know you didn’t need an official reason to drink hot chocolate but now that it’s on the list, it’s mandatory! Stock up for this season for days that you’re staying in, having friends over and/or watching holiday movies all day. Something about hot chocolate brings back the best childhood memories!
9. Candles
This is mainly all about ambience. Set the mood within your lounge area so that it appears to be warm, calm and smells like something that makes you the happiest!
10. Mugs
Soar throats and sniffles equate to plenty of cups of tea during this season! Save yourself from using your parents old collection and start building a mug collection for yourself. Whether you’re fighting a cold or preventing one, a cup a day keeps the doctor away!
11. Airborne
Germs are coming from everywhere this season. As a person who’s been sick consistently every two weeks since September I wish I had this earlier. Airborne gives your immune system the extra little push necessary to fight off any surrounding illness that can be transferred through air.
12. A Good Read
Nothing more Instagrammable then you, a good book and your windowsill! On a serious note, in your intermission period from school this is your time to actually read those books you bought for leisure throughout the semester. A late night read is not only good for the enrichment of your mind but can also help you sleep on some nights!
13. Netflix… If You Haven’t Already Subscribed
In the era of Netflix and chill this has pretty much already been a mandated expense in your budget. Other benefits include catching up on the season of a show you missed in the fall semester and entertaining your close friends who couldn’t care between a party or Netflix and a multitude of snacks!
Hopefully now you are better prepared to enjoy winter and spend winter break with more fun memories rather than fighting off colds!
