YouTube is becoming an increasingly popular form of media for entertainment, and that means that there are more YouTubers than ever to watch and enjoy. Some have larger channels than others, and some people are admittedly better than others (some based on experience, some based on... lack of tact, shall we say). I personally have become an avid viewer of a variety of YouTube videos, so here's my top ten YouTubers that I've come to love and respect.
10. LordMinion777
I don't watch his channel too often, simply because I have so many channels that I'm trying to keep up with, but LordMinion777- aka Wade- plays a variety of games and puts them up on his channel. There are some multiplayer videos as well. I found him from another channel that I'll get to later.
9. Muyskerm
Again, this is one that I found from watching another channel, and again, Muyskerm tends to stick to video games and vlogging to keep his viewers in the loop. Though he can be a little awkward, he's pretty genuine, and his sarcasm is worth watching.
8. Littleteafox
To break away from the video games, Littleteafox considers herself a "beauty vlogger." Essentially this means she does videos such as "Finding the Right Glasses for You," but she also does videos on her hair and various styles of makeup, breaking down the process and specifically showing the products she would recommend to be sure she doesn't accidentally suggest something damaging. She makes me miss my dyed hair!!!
But all in all, she's a very pretty girl with a talent, and I often go to her channel to see if there's anything I'd like to try.
7. AsapSCIENCE
Coming in at number seven is a more analytical channel, where there are short videos on a myriad of scientific topics, from the hormones women experience because of menstruation to the science of cheating to discussing how much pain a human being can handle. It's easy to watch several of them and there are so many topics that I would be hard pressed to not find anything on that channel that interested me at that time. The subject is broken down so the viewer can understand what they are being told, and there are often colorful pictures and diagrams with the explanation to make it even more clear to either clear up or bring to light important question. After all, not every question has a definitive answer!
6. Matt & Amanda
I discovered Matthais and his lovely wife Amanda because Matthais actually has more than one YouTube channel, but this vlogging channel has quickly become my favorite. The couple lives in L.A. and the vlog talks about their daily life and the silly things they experience, but also if they want to talk about something to their viewers it's the primary line for communication. I enjoy the personal perspective of the videos, not to mention their two-month-old daughter Luna is one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
5. PewDiePie
Even if you don't watch YouTube, you've probably heard of PewDiePie. He's been the biggest channel on YouTube since around 2013, and he's even released a few mobile games. I've written an article concerning Felix before, and although I've been watching him for years, he isn't my favorite despite being the one who got me into watching YouTubers in the first place. His focus is mainly games, although he also has several challenge videos and vlogs as well. He admittedly catches a hard time for being so popular, and some try to give him a hard time for his style changing over the years, but I personally still consider him a good human being and entertainer even if I do not watch him as frequently anymore.
4. Boyinaband
Now here's a channel who was dormant for almost a year until recently. Dave Brown is a musician, though his channel doesn't focus on purely music. The video that he is likely the most well known for is a music video called "Don't Stay in School," in which he addressed how the school system doesn't necessarily help the students in a way that benefits them in their futures once they have graduated. He also addresses some self esteem issues that he himself struggles with along with stress and just neat things he wants to talk about on the channel. Sometimes we see his sister or some of his other friends as well, helping him with a challenge, music, or enthusing with him about a particular subject. I love the genuine interest he has in what he does and his desire to be honest with his community.
3. The Game Theorists/GT Live
The reason I put these two channels together is they're run by essentially the same people. The Game Theorists usually features Matthew Patrick, aka MattPat, breaking down the science and lore of games and connecting the dots that many may not even see. He dives into his research, going so far to calculate Mario's height and discover that it is different than what Nintendo says (according to his theory of course). Any video game lover- or, if you're me, a lover of people who play video games- will probably be interested in the channel. He closes out each video with reminding everyone that everything in which he has just divulged is simply a theory and that people are absolutely free to spin things to their own angle to try and see it their own way. It's intellectually stimulating while it also leaves the ending open for people to add on.
The streaming side of the channel is GT live, where MattPat and his wife Stephanie play games on the stream, interacting with social media and their viewers while streaming and sometimes theorizing about the game they're playing, particularly concerning a widely known and picked-apart game such as Five Nights at Freddy's. The friendly, lax environment is great for background noise or avid watching, and because it's a livestream there isn't so much editing so we as viewers can see the struggle of getting through the game rather than all of that simply being edited out.
2. JackSepticEye
Jack/Sean is loud, Irish, and holds a place in my heart with his goofy smile and genuine laugh. Although there is admittedly a lot of swearing, the enthusiasm in which he works through the game he plays keeps the viewers engaged and hopefully smiling. Though he's been doing YouTube for a few years, the name of his channel became more widespread when he won a shoutout contest on PewDiePie's channel. Since then he has blossomed into his own, becoming more comfortable on camera. Within the last year, he has been to several conventions and actually held his own panel in the United States. He's also recently started doing some sillier videos that don't necessarily have anything to do with video games such as "The JackSepticEye Power Hour." He's another one that tries his hardest to be open with his community, and his viewers value that.
1. Markiplier
My personal number one favorite is Mark Edward Fischbach, known on YouTube as Markiplier. He typically creates gaming videos, but also has done a variety of challenges and skits. He's particularly well known for his playthroughs of the Five Nights at Freddy's series and his Impossible Let's Plays (let's just say one of them has him waxing his legs and leave it at that). Currently standing at 14,914,561 subscribers, this is actually his second channel- the first one was lost some time ago- and has currently dyed his hair three different colors. While he tends to keep his life more private than some, he has proven again and again to be a genuine, gentle, caring human being with a deep love for the community that has accumulated to watch his videos over the years. His sense of humor personally appeals to me the most out of any other YouTubers that I have found at this point in time and I actually watched some of his older videos while I was writing this!
So here's my top ten, but please try to remember that these are based on my opinions and my sense of humor. I am in no way against any of the channels that didn't make this list, and a year from now my preferences might be completely different. I love the YouTube community and can't wait to see it continue to grow.
