I was trying to decide what movie I would watch after I wrote my article for the week, but I realized I should probably write my article and then decide. However, as I tried to write I just kept thinking of all the movies that I used to watch with my older siblings when I was younger. These movies were really a part of my childhood and I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to grow up watching these classic films.
1. "The Breakfast Club"
This has been one of my favorite movies from the first time I watched it. Even though the first few times I watched it I really did not fully grasp what was happening with time I began to understand it. One of my favorite parts will always be when John Bender is in the gymnasium with one boot and one sneaker telling Mr. Vernon that he is thinking about trying out for a basketball scholarship.
2. "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"
Another classic film that I will always love. If you have not seen this movie then you're obviously just missing out on life and I am so very sorry for you. The best part of this film for me is the end when Chief is able to do what no one else could (I do not want to ruin the movie for anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to see it but plans to); however, if you've seen it or just plan to you will know what I'm talking about for sure.
3. "The Shining"
To this day, this movie will still seriously scare me and I'm not completely sure why since I've seen it too many times to count. I obviously know what is going to happen so I should be prepared for it, but I'm not. This movie isn't a typical scary movie for me either because it's like a real-life scary movie. It seems realistic and like it could actually happen instead of some make believe story.
4. "Mean Girls"
I know this is a typical teenage girl response to what her favorite movie is, but it is impossible to honestly say that this movie is not great. The best part of this movie for me is not even the movie itself, but the fact that my Dad will watch it with me any day and has no problem quoting his favorite parts.
5. "Harry Potter"
Obviously, Harry Potter is not just one movie, but when I say Harry Potter, I mean all of the movies combined. These were the movies that I could not wait to go and see in the theater with my brother and sister. I, like many other children, wished so very much that Hogwarts was a real place and that I would be fortunate enough to go there. Sadly, I never received my letter.
6. "Star Wars"
Again, when I say Star Wars I am talking about all of the films as one. Star Wars was/still is so very amazing. I have to admit when I was younger I was not the hugest Star Wars fan; ironically, it had nothing to do with the movies but just the fact that my sister loved them so much. I had to dislike them because I could not possibly call my sister a nerd if I admitted to liking the same things as she had.
7. "The Lord of the Rings"
My explanation for The Lord of the Rings would be very similar to that of Star Wars because I felt like admitting to like this would mean I thought my sister was, in fact, cool. It was easier for me to avoid with these movies though because parts of these always seemed scary to me when I was younger. Now, there is nothing that can keep me from admitting my love for them.
8. "Forrest Gump"
Everyone knows this is one of the best movies of all time, and if you say it is not then you are obviously lying.
9. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"
Again, if you try to tell me these are not some of the best movies of all time then I really just do think you are an honest person. The best thing about the ninja turtles is that they did not die out and there continue to be movies made today. I can NOT wait for the next movie to come out!
10. "The Hurricane"
This movie was not and is not as popular as it should be. It tells the amazing story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and the amazing journey he made throughout his life. If I had to pick my number one favorite movie - this would be it. If I had to recommend a single movie to someone - this would be it. If I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life - this would be it.
