The Struggles Of Preparing For A Little

The Struggles Of Preparing For A Little

When it was big-little week for me, I got to be spoiled with presents for a whole week, and I didn’t think that was all that bad. I got all these cool kinds of crafts I was able to hang in my room, shirts that represented my sorority, and candy galore! Not once did it cross my mind that I will be in my big’s position a year from then, getting ready to welcome my own little to the family!

I did not think that crafting and preparing for a little would be so time-consuming, frustrating, and messy. I thought that crafting was something you did not exactly have to be talented at; if you put your mind to it, you could do it! Yeah, I learned that it is more than just putting your mind to it. Not only that, but crafting is a very messy hobby!

I tend to think that I am artistic (or, at least, thought I was) and that I can make something that looks just as great as it does in a picture, but boy, am I wrong! I just hope that my little out there appreciates all my hard work and realizes that I tried to craft, but no one will see me crafting any time soon, or ever again.

Glue everywhere.

Trying to hot glue little pieces onto something is very difficult. The time and dedication it takes in order to get the item in the spot you want it in takes a lot of patience. Not only that, but the hot glue gun leaves strings of glue that get everywhere. Leave it to me to be so focused on my gluing that I glue my own fingers together.

Paint all over your hands.

See, I thought I was doing such a good job with painting all the spots on the items that needed to be painted and not missing any little section. Well, yes, I missed many sections, along with practically painting my whole hand rather than the item. Don’t ask me how that happened, because I honestly could not tell you. I guess the paint wanted to stick to my hand rather than the object I was supposed to be painting.

Multiple re-dos.

I lost track of the number of times that I had to start over and paint over my mistakes. I think by the 10th time I just faced the fact that I am not meant to craft.

Crying when you look at your bank account.

All my money has been spent on crafts and presents to spoil my little with! As fun as this process may be, my bank account is not having as much fun as it did when I was becoming a little. Sorry, mom and dad, but crafts are expensive and my little needs to be spoiled!

Staying up late to craft.

It's weird to find myself staying up past my bedtime to craft rather than doing an assignment that is due the next day... #bigproblems

Making multiple trips to the crafting store.

Here I thought that one trip to Hobby Lobby was going to be my one and only trip. Ha! You don’t realize all the stuff you need until you’re actually in the process of crafting and need something to finish the product! I've already been to Hobby Lobby four times to prepare for big-little week and I don’t think that I've been there my last time either.

Getting frustrated because of how inartistic you are.

I am always so proud after I finish crafting, because I usually stop midway, when I realize how horrible it looks. It sucks that I am so inartistic and everything that I make looks like a kindergartner made it, but hey, I guess I have to face the fact that I was not made to craft. I tried my best, sorry, little!

Telling yourself how your little better appreciate everything because of how hard you worked.

All I keep telling myself is that I hope my little likes everything because of how much time and dedication I put into these crafts and baskets! I know I’m not the best at crafting and struggle with it, but hey, I did it, and I probably will not pick up another paintbrush ever again.

Debating if sorority life is even for you because you fail at crafting.

Do you have to be able to craft to be in a sorority? If so, I should probably eliminate myself now.

Your living room is full of big-little stuff, aka crafting stuff.

Your roommates constantly ask you why you are crafting so much and why it is all over the place. Sorry, it's big-little week and I have to craft, craft, craft! Therefore, the living room is now my art studio.

Big-little week is the best week, but preparing for it… ehhh, not so much. However, all this crafting and time that I spent on my little is so worth it. I cannot wait to be a big and welcome my little to my fam!

Hope you enjoy being spoiled this week, little!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
