Struggles Of Having A Birthday In May

Struggles Of Having A Birthday In May

Ah, May -- it’s that time of the year. Everyone is going crazy thinking about the last set of assignments and finals, as those are the only things to accomplish before being free for the summer. Somehow, it seems to be worse for May babies because we all want to get out and celebrate, but everything about getting things done can make us dread our birthdays. Ever since my senior year of high school, I’ve dreaded celebrating my birthday. It’s not that I don’t want to celebrate at all, I really do because we have to treat ourselves every once in a while, but I dread my birthday because it is always right before or during finals week. It isn’t just December and begging for Christmas to come sooner, but it is also May and begging for summer to come sooner.

Obviously, from late April to mid-May, we are swamped with getting everything done for the spring semester because the thought of summer is just so good. Every spring semester, there is always wondering about why professors decide to put papers, presentations, and group work a few weeks before the spring semester ends. There is always that thought of accomplishment when we finish something, but then we look at what else we have to do and groan because we have too much to do for a specific class. It is a pet peeve of mine, even if I can write something up pretty fast, when professors put off giving details for any final assignment at the last possible minute.

It isn’t just the thought of completing last minute assignments, but there is also the thought of having to study for final exams. This semester I only have one final exam and a finalized copy of my research proposal for a sociology senior thesis. My final is cumulative. I hate the thought of how an exam will be cumulative; it makes me dread my birthday more than I should I am most likely going to be spending time the week before the final, and the weekend of my birthday, studying my butt off. Everyone who has a birthday in the middle of May dreads the thought of spending their birthday studying for finals when they want to do nothing more than to go out and celebrate.

Because of either having a birthday when you have to complete last minute assignments, or studying for finals, chances are that you celebrate your birthday when it is Mother’s Day. When we want to celebrate our birthdays, there is always that thought of having to prioritize what has to be done first. When we want to celebrate our birthdays, we are always too busy thinking about cramming for our final exams. When we celebrate our birthdays, we have to push any plans we’d love to have for our birthday on a later date.

If you have a birthday in May and have endless amounts of tasks to do, we can do it!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
