I recently just got a kitten that I found at an Ingles in my town of Knoxville, Tennessee. Someone had put her in cereal box and left her in a cart on a hot summer day. Luckily I had decided to bring the cart back into the store when I arrived; she rolled out of the box and later into my hands. At first, I was not sure what to or if she was healthy or not.
The biggest thing on my mind when I found her was why anyone would do this to a little kitten. I really was not sure if wanted to keep her or take her to a non-kill shelter in town. She was very grateful and was clinging to me all the way to the vet.
After a few hours, I was attached for good. My biggest fear so far is that she is only 5-6 weeks old but only weighs less than a pound and looks like she is 3-4 weeks old. She is so tiny! I feed her often and she takes food down like no other animal I have ever seen eat. The coolest part of it all is that Zoey is a replica of my cat, Bailey but with a pink nose instead of a black nose.
My biggest concern about little bug is when she does grow to be 12 weeks and we decided to let her explore that Bailey might try to push her down the stairs. He is a sweet cat, but can be an asshole in a matter of seconds.
They have had interactions and so far it has gone well. Bailey has stopped hissing at her and now wants to be in the same room with her and just observe. Zoey does like to chase him and bite his tail. She is still in her weaning phase of kitten hood so she likes to jump on his back and belly. I know that it will work out, and she will become a great addition to the cat ruled home we have.
So far I have learned that being a foster home to a kitten is hard work, especially when the situation occurred unexpectedly. My main goal is to keep her healthy and happy as possible.
