The Seven Stages of Finals Week

Brace Yourselves

The Seven Stages of Finals Week
Huffington Post

The most frightening week of the year is upon us: final week. The five day period where every student either pulls an amazing grade savior or tries not to collapse under pressure. Whether your finals week consists of nerve-wracking presentations, never ending research papers or the dreaded exams, here are a few things that every student can relate to during finals weeks.

Shock

"It's finals already?! I haven't even finished my Thanksgiving leftovers!" The initial disbelief that finals are here is very common for most students; especially those who have procrastinated on large assignments. Surprise! You have a week to get your life together!

Denial

This is usually the part where students scroll through their calendars and syllabus deadlines. It just can't be.

Bargaining

"I promise to stay sober for the rest of my college career if you give me an A." Don't kid yourself, we all know that you're not going to live up to whatever plea you;re trying to make. Now you're just embarrassing yourself.

Anger

Papers fly, books are thrown on the floor, things have the tendency to get very violent very quickly during this phase. Suddenly the tiniest things, like fighting for a parking spot or dealing with annoying roommates, is enough to set you over the edge. As long as you don't hit your professor, you should make it out of this phase with little consequence.

Guilt

"I shouldn't have spent so many nights watching Shameless. Maybe if I actually attended a lecture, I would understand what is going on in these PowerPoint slides." Now is a moment of reflection for the things you should have done, but never actually got around to. Everybody makes mistakes.

Depression

This is the part where we all cry. Some cry in the safety of their dorm rooms, others prefer to cry in the library amongst all of the other sad, stressed students. Crying in groups can prove to be a quite bonding experience. As they say: friends who cry together under the crippling stress and anxiety together, stay together.

Acceptance

You will pass all of your exams. You will graduate college. You will have your dream career. And you will have the successful lifestyle you strive to have. Now get out there! Study for your tests, get as caffeinated as humanly possible, and crush finals week. You can do this!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
