A pastime

As Basketball, Football, Hockey, and the Olympics talk get into full swing, we sometimes forget the pure joy and excitement that Baseball can bring to us. As a society, throughout the 20th century into today, we rely on baseball to unify people. This fact alone makes it a special activity, but it's the magical quality of the game that only those that have passion for it, who have played it and who appreciate all it can do for an aching soul--the game is for you--the sport that makes you feel special and wanted is entirely yours.

I always pity someone who says Baseball is boring, because that probably means that they were never introduced to the beauty that is the game of baseball. It's our pastime for a good reason; it's played a key role in the development of the American mind as a beautiful and passionate activity that has given leisure to many, a childhood to even more and the opportunity to inspire to most everyone.

This piece is me saying thank you to a sport that made me appreciate men, women and children, alike. It all started in t-ball when I was six. After that point it was all I wanted to do. It at least kept me in decent shape but that isn't the point. It taught me to compete, fight for what I want and focus on the end goal. Imagine that you are pitching on the mound in the last inning and you need to throw the ball into the perfect spot 60 feet away. Needless to say, it's hard to do. But it requires focus and accuracy to be successful, just as in life. I guess this is the magic that connects it so seamlessly into the psyche of the people who have played it. It teaches something we need, we have fun doing it, and sometimes, can bring us to tears.

Baseball,

Thank you.

Cheers.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
