Two weeks ago I finished the sixth season of "New Girl." One thing that the viewers have seen over the years is the relationship of Schmidt and Cece. Audience members have seen it grow from friends to friends with benefits to best friends and finally husband and wife. In reality, we will find that person that makes us feel the way that Schmidt feels about Cece but very much like Schmidt we will sometimes have to wait. In our lives, we rush to find “the one” and want to be happy in our lives. Love will find us and love comes in many different forms but we need to patient. Schmidt has to wait for his time to come and while he did a second chance he made sure to make the most of it. He made sure to grow and create sacrifices not just for him but the woman that he loves.
In the first episode, we meet all the main characters including Schmidt who develops a crush on Cece. Cece is the best friend of the new loft mate of Schmidt Coach and Nick. All the men are enamored with Cece at first, but it is Schmidt who gets the closest with her. Throughout the first few seasons, their relationship is back and forth whether they are dating or have feelings for each other but there is a time where Schmidt has to make the hardest decision. In the second season, Schmidt begins dating his old girlfriend and actually brings her to Cece’s wedding. Schmidt accidentally comes into the room where Cece is getting ready. Schmidt looks into Cece’s eyes and knows she doesn’t really want to get married, which leads her to say that she wants to be with someone else. This is what Schmidt wanted but he was then put in a pickle having to choose who he wanted to be with. Throughout the next few seasons, they continue their friendship and there are times where Scmidt wants to tell her how he feels, but realizes it isn’t the time or place. However, Schmidt never loses hope and continues to try and win her back.
While it does seem that this relationship might be one-sided at times Cece does, in fact, love Schmidt. During one of the later seasons, she begins to love him again. Cece knows that she is in love with Schmidt again, but she can’t quite tell him yet because Schmidt is with someone else. There is an instance when Schmidt’s girlfriend criticizes him and Cece responds wit that he deserves better. Later on, Cece goes to a mountain to get away from Schmidt and Schmidt tries to clear himself of Cece and his past. However, he ends up throwing away $5 and the audience tries to figure out the significance of the money. It is revealed the night Schmidt met Cece he said: “Girl, I’ma marry you.”
To which she responds with “Jar” alluding to the douchebag jar for Schmidt when he says something ridiculous and inappropriate. This flashback leads to Schmidt proposing and the girl of his dreams saying yes.
As we have seen the relationship has its ups and downs but Schmidt never stopped loving her. He knew that no matter what happened she was the girl he wanted to be with. Even when he saw her with other people he never gave up on her. When he found out she loved him he finally could tell the girl of his dreams how he really felt. As said by Vanessa Hudgens in my favorite movie “We might find our place in this world someday.” Schmidt and Cece found their place in this world and while we might think sometimes that you might not end up with the girl of your dreams, it can happen. Schmidt never gave and we shouldn’t either. Yes, there will be ups and downs but if she is worth it then it can happen.
