From my personal experience and observing others, I have come to the conclusion that each person actually has two completely conflicting voices in their head. One voice is the real you and the other voice is the liar you. These two completely conflicting voices constantly fight each other in your head and strive for authority over your mind. The real challenge is to embrace the real you and silence the liar you.
Who is the real you, and what kind of desires does it have? The real you is the best version of yourself and the person who you deeply desire to be. Within the real you, your innermost desires and goals lie. Examples of these desires include to live a virtuous life, to be the best person that you can be, to make a difference in the world, to get to heaven, and to sacrifice immediate pleasures in order to fulfill lifelong goals. These desires and goals most often require a lot of work, time, dedication, and patience. Since the deep desires in the real you require a lot of work, time, dedication, and patience, it is very challenging to be the real you. Unlike the liar you, to fulfill the real you one must sacrifice many immediate pleasures and be committed to striving for what is best for themselves and their ideals in the long run. Being the real you is harder than being the liar you because being the real you requires much more work and patience. With that being said, being the real you is by far the most fulfilling way to live your life.
Who is the liar you, and what kinds of desires does it have? The liar you is the voice in your head that tells you that you have low value and that striving to fulfill your deep desires isn’t worth it. The liar you is impatient, lazy, and craves immediate satisfaction. Desires of the liar you include striving to have sex all the time, drugs, the easiest possible life, and avoiding challenges and difficulties at all costs. If you listen to the liar you, you will get immediate satisfaction, but no long-term fulfillment. The liar you constantly craves immediate pleasure that takes you away from your deep desires. The liar you is a liar because it tells you that immediate pleasures are going to bring you happiness, when really those immediate pleasures are only going to temporarily bring you happiness and cause you to wander away from your deep desires in life. In conclusion, the liar you will trick you if you let it and it will lead you to temporary happiness, but no self-fulfillment in the long-term.
At this point, the challenge is clear. You deeply desire to be the real you, but it’s hard because the real you desires things that require a lot of work, time, and effort while the liar you constantly begs for attention, tells you that what you are doing isn’t worth it, offers you an easy way out, and tells you that immediate satisfaction is the answer. Constantly shunning the liar you and embracing the real you is the first step on your journey to self-fulfillment and happiness.
