Every year high school and college students get a summer job. Every year there are sacrifices and rewards.
Cons
1. Getting a job can be very difficult.
When getting a job everyone who wants that job is competition. As a college student, I got turned down from eight jobs because they didn't want to hire someone only staying for the summer. It must be nice to have so many people apply for a job and pick who you want.
2. You always have to be nice.
The customer's happiness comes first and your's comes second. That being said, please do not test our politeness.
3. Everyone second guesses your capability to do your job.
Just because I asked a coworker a question does not mean I don't know how to do the entirety of my job.
4. You have to dress presentably.
The first few days of having a job you may follow the dress code exactly or make sure your uniform is perfect. After a while, you realize that your employers care more about whether you show up or not.
5. You will have no social life.
There's never enough time. If there is enough time, I can guarantee you that you and your friends will have conflicting schedules because of your jobs.
6. You will have moments where you start to dislike people.
Difficult people will make your job harder, making you dislike them.
7. Being an adult is horrible.
Paying for things on your own, going to work on time... being an adult is the worst.
8. You realize how expensive things are.
Suddenly, now you notice all the expensive things you can't have because you're too poor with your minimum wage job.
9. Responsibility.
Going to a place on time every day and sometimes missing out on fun things to do with your friends will never not suck.
10. You will want to go home.
Even if you don't say it out loud, you always want to go home.
Pros
1. Money.
Who doesn't like money?
2. You will become friends with your coworkers.
Yay new friends! Plus you now have friends that understand your hatred of difficult people.
3. You will understand the value of things.
After you start working, you realize how you want to spend your money and what you can't afford. You also learn how to use discounts to your advantage. College students, JCrew has a 15 percent discount on your purchase if you show them your student ID.
4. You will gain experience.
Finally you can smile, knowing you can add something to work experience and your resume.
5. You will become an adult with income.
For some odd reason, when you get a job and income your parents become really relaxed. They no longer care how long you sleep or what you do in your free time. In their eyes you are now a productive member of society.
6. If you work at a restaurant, you sometimes get free food.
FREE FOOD!
7. You really like going home.
The place that you once hated going to after going to fun places with friends will become your special place and safe haven. Home will become the best place on earth compared to work.
8. You will appreciate your job.
Your get life experience and money. It's a good deal.
