According to the Webster dictionary, makeup means substances (such as lipstick or powder) used to make someone's face look more attractive. According to me, it's substances (such as lipstick or powder) used to enhance already attractive features and boost self confidence.
The day my mom let me wear a little blush to elementary school changed me forever. It wasn't the fact that it made me look better or automatically made me attractive (because it didn't), but because it enhanced the qualities I already had while boosting my self confidence. I felt beautiful, and that was only a few swipes of blush.
As the years went on, a few swipes of blush turned into a few swipes of mascara, then a few swipes of eye shadow, and eventually evolved into a full face of makeup.
It's understandable why people flinch when they see make up caked on, I have to restrain myself from taking a beauty blender to their faces. But if something, not just make up, makes someone feel beautiful, why should we discourage that?
To those of you who think you need makeup to be beautiful, you're wearing it for the wrong reasons. To those of you who think people only wear makeup solely for attention, stop being so quick to judge.
Makeup is powerful. It doesn't just affect how someone looks, but also affects how someone feels. I know I don't need it to be beautiful, I love it because no matter what events have taken place throughout the day, I still feel beautiful. If a little something as simple as mascara can do that, count me in.
