College isn’t always about the many papers that we write or the tests we take. It’s not about the countless homework assignments and never ending all-nighters. It’s not about the grades we receive or our GPA’s, there are other important factors when it comes to college.
College has taught me to have more faith than I could ever imagine before. It has taught me to study something besides for my classes, it’s reminded me that I’m never alone, and it has surrounded me with a support system of other believers. It has given me the opportunity to study God’s word and be constantly reminded by those in my church and campus organization that when in doubt, study scripture.
College is definitely a stressful time. It’s a time where we focus on ourselves, a time where we feel anxious, and experience fear. College is a time where we forget that life’s temporary, we forget that we aren’t guaranteed a tomorrow. College is fun, but it’s also a time where we need reminders of what our Savior has done for us, and what he has blessed us with. It’s easy to forget when we aren’t thinking about.
Anxious/Anxiety
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
This verse is a good reminder that we should not be anxious about anything. It reminds us that we need to be in prayer with thanksgiving letting our requests be made known to God. It is definitely hard to not be anxious. But by praying with thanksgiving, the peace of God will suppress all understanding and guard our hearts and minds, it is such a wonderful reminder.
Fear
“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1 ESV
The Lord is our salvation, and leads our lives. Why do we often fear?
Necessary Reminder
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me” Philippians 4: 13 ESV
This verse is sometimes easy to forget the real meaning, this does not mean God blesses whatever we do, it simply means God gives us believers the strength to do whatever he asks us to do.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interest of others” Philippians 2: 3-4 ESV
It is so easy to get so involved in our own interest, and it is easy to forget about the interest of others. We need to focus more on the interest of others and count them more significant than ourselves.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 ESV
This is a necessary reminder in many of our lives, it is so easy to think we are trusting the Lord, when we actually aren’t at all. We must give thanks to him and continue to trust Him, we cannot lean on our understanding.
These are definitely only a few necessary reminders for college students, the Bible is so full from cover to cover with necessary details and lessons. Although we must study hard while going to College, it is also important for us to continue studying God’s glorious word. We must be reminded of his glorious well developed plan for our lives, we must quit being anxious, quit being fearful and continue being reminded of life’s many blessings.
