As finals week approaches, college students search for ways to procrastinate. People play new video games, start new seasons of TV shows on Netflix, binge watch Youtube videos and spend endless hours on social media while putting off their work. However, in the spirit of finals week, I wanted to share some of the most productive ways to procrastinate.
1. Clean (or do laundry).
This task can easily be accomplished while listening to music or watching TV. If you feel like your room is organized, neat and clean, maybe you’ll be more likely to clean up the rest of your act.
2. Exercise.
If you exercise and feel great and look great, then maybe you’ll be more eager to achieve greatness in your work. On the other hand, feeling great and looking great might make you more likely to want to go out and party. Either way, it’s still a healthy way to procrastinate.
3. Cook.
Whether you're a girl or guy, this is a great way to improve your appeal in a relationship. Girls love guys who can cook, and guys love girls who can cook. And food is good on its own so cooking is an all around win for everyone.
4. Nap.
If you take a nap, theoretically you’ll wake up more energized than you were before. You’ll be well-rested, motivated and ready to work the minute you wake up.
5. Write.
Just put words on paper and maybe it’ll turn into something useful. Like the essay you were supposed to be writing anyway. So this is technically not procrastinating, but a useful thing to do anyway.
6. Knit.
As fall finals approach, it starts getting pretty cold. Maybe you’ll be more motivated to work once you’ve knitted yourself a warm, wool blanket. Maybe not, but at least you’ll be warm.
7. Learn another language.
Prepare yourself for your world travels by learning a bunch of random languages. Even though you probably won’t remember anything when you actually travel to that country.
8. Play a musical instrument.
It’s been said that learning how to play a musical instrument can help a person’s overall ability for comprehension. In addition, you can make up songs to help remember facts for that upcoming test! By the time you’re done, you may or may not be able to remember some important information, but at least you’ll have a whole new album ready to be released!
9. Read (this article).
In the amount of time you took to read this article, you could have written an outline for that paper due tomorrow morning or have done a quick review for that final exam. However, we definitely aren’t suggesting you stop reading articles from the Odyssey!
In conclusion — oh forget it, just stop procrastinating and get to work already!
