The Miami Heat have had a less than stellar start to their season. Though not terrible by any means, the Heat are currently 5-7, at 12th place in the Eastern Conference. This was not expected from a team that only several months previously was facing the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.
The team has been depleted with injury and the COVID precautions. As a result, often enough, the majority of the Heat's best players were never on the court at the same time. Jimmy Butler, arguably the Heat's best player has been on and off the active roster due to injury. The same has been said for Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo.
Another persisting issue has been players simply underperforming. Players like Nunn and Olynyk have been drastically underperforming .
The Heat cannot afford to play and perform this way, especially in an Eastern Conference that has become more competitive. The Philadelphia 76ers are a team on the rise led by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, supported by a cast that includes amazing players such as Dwight Howard, Seth Curry, and Danny Green.
The biggest change is, of course, in regards to the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets were already an extremely talented team with the return of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. However, the Nets recently underwent a trade that brought James Harden to Houston. That is 2 MVPs and a top tier All-Star leading a team. Following this, the Nets became extreme favorites to win the NBA championship this year.
If the Miami Heat hopes to evne stand a chance against these teams, they need to get their act together. There has been talks that the Heat may try to acquire Victor Oladipo from the Rockets. I think Oladipo would definitely be a big help to this Heat team and can take them over the hump this season.
