The Memory Of A Goldfish

I promise that I listen to what you say,

but sometimes my memory doesn't capture your words from day-to-day.

So tell me again, while my mind is ready,

you went to visit your cousin Eddie?

No, no, that's not right - that was last week.

Yesterday you shopped at that fancy boutique?

Ok, I give up, I just can't remember...

(side note, did you say your birthday is in December?)

Maybe I should take notes instead,

so I can relearn all the things that fly out of my head.

Just help me out

when it seems I'm in doubt

because I'm sure you know

my mind is my greatest foe.

I can't help that I have the memory of a goldfish,

no matter how hard I try to reverse it with a wish.

*Disclaimer* I am aware that some studies have shown that goldfish do have a longer memory than just a few seconds, but the old saying was just too applicable to my life!
