What is Love?

This is what it is to me.

What is Love?
plusquotes

I remember being a teenager and constantly questioning what love meant. What it felt like. I'd always wondered what it'd be like to be in love. How I'd know when I'd finally fallen in love. Love was a mystery I hadn't solved yet, but I was so ready to begin the journey of defining love. It took years for me to finally come up with my definition, and I know it will change as I grow older. But, for now, this is what love is to me:

Love is the sound of their groggy voice in the morning because they absolutely hate waking up.

Love is the way the world seems right when they're by your side.

Love is the feeling in the pit of your stomach that lets you know that nothing would be the same without them in your life.

Love is sacrifice and compromise, intertwined.

Love is the calm feeling you get when they talk to you on the phone, or hold you, after a long, anxiety-filled day.

Love is the look they get in their eyes when you kiss their forehead. They know that means, "I love you."

Love is going through the ups and downs of life with someone but still knowing at the end of the day that you're there for one another. No matter what, you always have someone to catch you.

Love is the fluttery feeling in your stomach when they say, "I love you." You hear the love and genuineness in their tone, and you can't stop your heart from skipping a beat.

Love is listening to country songs over and over because that's their favorite genre of music. You've learned to love it too, and you don't know if that's because country is catchy or you love them so much you've fallen in love with their music taste as well.

Love is spending ridiculous amounts of money on chocolate just to see a smile spread across their face, even if it's only for a few seconds. But it's totally worth it.

Love is going to almost all of their work shifts as a lifeguard just so you can spend three hours doing homework while not-so-secretly staring at them doing their homework. But you do it to spend as much time with them as possible.

Love is the warmth and safety you feel when you're cuddling them. There's no better feeling than holding them.

Love is making them laugh when all they've wanted to do all day is scream and cry.

Love is making them feel as if their world isn't falling apart as much as they think it is, because they know they can depend on you.

Love is dealing with their mental breakdowns, anxiety, depression, crying, anger, disappointment and negative self-talk no matter how irritated you are with them. You do it out of love. And the next day, you wake up and fall right back in love with them.

Love is the sound of them breathing next to you. You've never been one to sleep next to people well, but with them, it feels right and you crave that closeness all the time.

Love is writing long messages to remind them just how lucky you are to have them and just how much you love them...so they don't forget.

Love is accepting each other's flaws but focusing on their perfections.

Love is sometimes changing your perspective on things because they have valid reasons for feeling or doing what they do.

Love is happiness.

Love is something you can count on.

Love is being there through all of the emotions and phases of life because you honestly can't imagine yourself with anyone else.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
