The human species is stuck in a constant rush forward. We unintentionally run through our lives, living day after day in the same consistent routine. Wake up, shower, brush teeth, get dressed, go to school or work, come home, eat dinner, get ready for bed, go to bed, repeat. Without realizing it, we’ve molded our lives into boring rituals of sameness.
Some of my favorite people have reminded me that these are the best years of my life. I’m young, working toward my dreams, and have so many opportunities thrown my way every day. With the arrival of a new month, I’ve decided to make a list of some of my favorite things to bring me back down to earth. It’s humbling to look outside of yourself and realize just how amazing your life truly is. This brought along the spark for my love list.
1. Family
My family is my rock. We’ve been through our rough patches like everyone else, but they consistently support me in my endeavors and always remind me that I’m loved. I don’t know what more I could ask for than that. Even when life gets really hard, we stick by each other and I know that I can count on them for anything.
2. Friends
I’m so happy to have met the best friends in college. They make me laugh when I’m feeling stressed, sad, or anxious. They give the best hugs, and give me everything without asking for anything in return. Knowing that you always have someone right behind you is such a great feeling. It’s such much fun always having someone to cheer on and support.
3. Optimism
Call it naïve, but I love being optimistic, and being around optimistic people. I can’t help but find the good in every situation. It takes a lot of training to get your brain to notice the great things when we’re hardwired to remember the worst part of our day, and I love that I can always be the burst of hope or helpfulness that someone needs to get through the day.
4. Music
There’s something so special about music that brings people together. In middle school and high school, I was an active participant in choir and I played the flute in band. At every concert, my friends and I would get so excited to take pictures and finally have our families hear what we’ve been working on for the past several months. Now that I’m in college, choir has taken on a whole new meaning in my life. It is so special to have a talent that you can utilize in such a magical way.
